Finally tried Sushi

Went to a Japanese restaurant and decided to finally try Sushi. My friend ordered 2 pcs of 3 different fish and i decided to try one of his tuna sushi. I was not impressed, I could barely taste it.Honestly i dont understand why a small pc of RAW fish with some rice is $2.50. I still prefer my fish cooked and unless the sushi is cheaper or free i am not eating it anymore.

I also ordered Shrimp and Lobster and wasn't even impressed with the lobster. This is the second time i ate lobster and it was ok, definitely not worth the price. The meal was $30 dollars but still my favorite part of the meal was the rice and shrimp. Next time i go to the Japanese restaurant i will be ordering Chicken and Stake dinner that sells for $17 and save my $15 bucks. Oh and if you are wondering why the meals are pricy it could be due to the fact that we watched the guy cook infront of us which was pretty cool.

Anyway your thoughts on Sushi/ Lobster etc etc?

those hibachi show grills do get pricey. it is cool, but i think the novelty wears off pretty quick.

That's a hefty price tag for a piece of wood :P

I find that I eat the most Sushi when I go to buffets, like a Casino that has crab legs and raw oysters. Sushi makes a nice appetizer but I could never eat it as a main course. I am more partial to the almost extinct Cheasapeake Bay Blue Crab. Or better yet soft shell crabs. Enjoy them while you can.

I find sushi really good when: I go to Rusan's, where you can get 3 pieces for a dollar. 2. I order teriyaki salmon rolls, or california rolls, or crispy calamari. and 3. I dip it in aioli and soy sauce.

I can stuff myself with delicious tasting food for about 6-7 dollars that way. Expensive sushi is def. not worth it.

Totally 100% on board with that.

If you look most places have either 3/$1 or 2/$1, and especially because I hate eating stuff I don't know, I love it. You can totally go into that place, load up on cheap sushi and tempura, and get a drink and leave 8 bucks on the table.

I'm a big fan of smoked salmon... but usually you'll find lots of cheap shrimp tempura if that's your thing.

Love me some sushi, but if the place you tried had barely any taste, they aint doing it right.

And yea, it's too expensive for what it is, that's why my cheap ### waits to find it on a buffet. :P I prefer sashimi so I can lay off the rice so much and watch the blood sugar.

Yea I know people say " why you wanna eat raw fish?" Well, it's just a different taste. It's not either/or, I like fish when it's cooked too. Nothing is better than baked Salmon in my opinion.

It's expensive, but it's pretty good stuff with soy sauce and wasabi.

Protip: Don't put the entire ball on a small peice of sushi and down the whole thing at once, that's a one way ticket to a near death experience.

I'm not happy eating sushi until I feel like I just inhaled napalm.

Ton o' wasabi FTW.

Also, I really don't like the taste of full-strength soy sauce. Try the ponzu sauce instead.

Yes...I have cried real tears more than once when eating wasabi. Whenever happens my daughter yells, "Wasabi!!!!" like the Japanese pilots used to yell, "Bonzai!!!!"

Does she like ice cream?

BTW, only J-pilot/gardener would yell Bonzai...
