I think I have an idea that will greatly improve these boards

I hope everyone is having a happy holiday season. I was thinking about what we could do to improve the experience for fans of the AFMB, and I have an idea.

I think we need to take Talk About The Falcons and break it up into 3 seaparate groups. These groups are:

1. Bitch about the Falcons - This will give a place for all of the people who want to constantly thrash their supposedly favorite team. It will let them all co-miserate together and leave the rest of us alone. It will be Hater Heaven!

2. "Realist" Talk About the Falcons - There is a group here who call themselves "realists". They are honestly much more intelligent that the folks in category 1, they have a good understanding of football, and are willing to discuss issues with the team. But these folks think that Criticism is a spiritual gift from The Lord above, and 99.999999% of what they post is negative. It is not wrong or unintelligent, but frequency of positive posts from this group is as often as a win by the Lions - basically 0-1 each year. If they have their own forum, they can talk to the people they want to talk to.

3. The "I Want To Focus On the Positives" of the Falcons - This is the group that wants to talk about the issues with the team, but still believe in the Falcons and the progress we are making. This is the group that will stand by and support their team no matter what, and will always cheer for a win.

Just a thought..... wink.gif

Well I am all for separating group number 1. If you separate group 2 and group 3, you are going to end up with some really short and uninteresting threads in both forums. it will be like an initial post, and 50 people saying "I agree, good post".

Or just have a $1 fee to join like other boards and that will cut down on the number of trolls greatly. The $1 fee could go to the Arthur Blank Foundation. People stop to think before spending a $1 to join a message board.

99% of the trolls would happily pay $10 for 10 screen names. All that would do is shut out the casual fan, which the Falcons would never allow.

maybe make a few like pure football, that would require some sort of approval to gain access? smile.gif

just spit balling, here.

That only weeds out Category 1 folks.

C'mon man, where is a troll going to get $10. Or a credit card. Yeah, they would probably steal them. That wouldn't be good. Nevermind.

I concur..

since whatever day I take my meds I would fall into one of those 3 categories .

We will set up a daily personality profile test to let you know where you should be posting for the day. laugh.gif

Casual fans can still browse the boards, but it will cost them $1 to post. Don't knock something until you've studied it. The system works. You're also assuming that the trolls would have a debit/credit card to access the boards.

Note that also having a Pay to Post forum will require people to register with their actual name and street address, which makes banning certain members much easier:

Registration for the View Askew WWWBoard

Welcome to the Askewniverse's WWWBoard.

Since its inception, the board has been a free (of charge) forum at which folks can talk about the View Askew flicks and all manner of subjects that have nothing to do with the VA flicks. However, along with all the kudos and attention the web site receives, so too come the ********, trolls and flamers who populate the dark corners of the internet, armed to the teeth with bitterness, envy, and a lot of free time.

In an effort to combat those who'd waste our bandwidth with garbage, we've opted to institute a membership fee for membership. It's a one-time only, non-refundable charge of $2.00 (that's right - two measly ******* bucks) in return for which, you'll be granted posting privileges at the View Askew WWWBoard. And lest you think this another vulgar grab at your wallet, all loot collected for Board membership will be donated, monthly, to RAINN, the Rape, Absue & Incest National Network.

Now, your two bucks do not buy you free reign on the Board. We still reserve the right to remove posts and ban any poster we feel is acting inappropriately in our forum, just as we have since 1996. Any Chicken Little ready to cry censorship need only be reminded that View Askew's WWWBoard is not a free speech forum; it's a place for fans and friends to gather and exchange ideas or ******** with one another. If you're just looking to be negative and blast View Askew, Kevin, or any board members, you've got the rest of the internet on which to do so. Here, your license to post, quite like your license to drive (your real license to drive, not the classic Corey Haim/Feldman flick of the same name), is a privilege, not a right.

In short, if you're just here looking for attention, may we suggest running downstairs to your parents

Trust me, the Falcons will never consider this for second. There are closed boards you can join if you like. Every one I've ever visited is full of massivly negative people, so the trolls would actually improve the place.

I don't pay for porn so I definately wouldn't pay to talk about football...

Keep in mind that it cost you nothing to pay someone no mind..

The "trolls" are only affective because "real fans" don't have the self discipline to ignore them..

You point is acknowledged, but it will absolitely never happen on the official site. It would shut down before it became a pay site.

I believe category 1 would fit nicely into Anything But Logic. On a different note, I have seen on different boards to where the poster must claim the team they are a fan of. It doesn't seem like much but I believe it would be difficult for a Saints fan to claim they are a Falcons fan. At least we would know who we are dealing with most of the time.

Another idea would be for posters to + or - the thread itself and the one with the most positives would basically stay pinned until another one passes it up for the day. Think of it like the anti bump to the stupid threads that you know will keep getting bumped.

Truer words have never been spoken.

It's like that saying.

Don't argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.

It has been a true test of my Pseudo-Grizzardian-Zen. I want to yell and argue so bad, but it will only make the idiot happy and increase my blood pressure.

Never is a long time, depending on what is said by one of the trolls the Falcons may have to consider it. I've seen some pretty awful things said around here (personal threats for example), it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world for the Falcons to know exactly who is posting on their boards.

Your proposal is an interesting one Rev and if allowed, I'd give you a big +1; however, I propose an additional improvement that has the potential of deterring many of the trolls who seem to grow like fungi:

Impose a 100 post requirement AND a requirement that you've been registered in FalconsLIFE for 30 days before you can start a new thread.

It's been pretty obvious that a 100 post count requirement alone wouldn't do the trick: we've all seen trolls bump up their count with one word responses/bumps/various forms of stupidity; however, most of them will tire of the process when forced to wait until they've been members for 30 days before they can spread poison in a new thread.

Nothing will completely stop a troll who is determined to cause disruption or violate the COC, but the 100 post count requirement coupled with a 30 day hurdle will deter many trolls and make these boards easier for the mods to police and easier for the members to enjoy.

If anyone else thinks this is a good idea, please feel free to bump this...it will boost your post countlaugh.gif
