by all reports Cotou was in contention for the Seattle job throughout the pre-season - I would like to give him a chance and see if we cannot get a young guy in for a few years instead of the revolving door of over the hill kickers getting one last paycheck

Coutu was 11 for 12, including from 52, 48 and a 36 yard game winner over the last two preseasons with Seattle. The ONLY reason he isn't the kicker there is because they have one of the best in the biz there already; Olindo Mare. The only knock on Coutu (and the subsequent reason he lost out to Mare) was his kickoff depth... I couldn't care less about that since we have one of the best kickoff specialists in the NFL already.

Besides, how could we not want Coutu here, he is Mort's pet project! Maybe we can BRING BACK MORT! Or rather bring him on staff to continue being Coutu's mentor.

Did you SEE Olindo Mare when he was in the NFC South? Train wreck.

At the University of Georgia, he kicked three field goals of over 50 yards, his longest was 58 yards. He never missed a PAT at Georgia and was the first kicker in Georgia history to have over 80% field goal accuracy.

And I know that we have people that will not want this guy simply because of where he played in college, but those numbers are good no matter what school he went to.

Have you looked at his stats the last 2 years? He is kicking around 90%. He is over 80% for his career, which is great. NFL record for field goal percentage on career has Mare not that far out of 3rd place (Matt Stover, 83%). Yes, he was a train wreck for the Saints, but over than that one year he has been very good.

I say we at least throw a young K on our PS. whether it is from being released or retiring i cant see Elam on this roster next season w a 3M+ cap hit.

Just keep in mind, bringin in kickers doesnt mean we will replace Elam. The best kicker during practices will likely stick.

I wouldnt mind seeing if a change of scenery would do Houshka any good. He can flat out nail a ball. Prater hose been good since going to DEN.
