falconsd56
Also if the saints keep turning the ball over, and continue to struggle stopping the run, its going to be a quick one and done in the playoffs.YEs the saints were missing players in the secondary but there is NO EXCUSE for letting one of hte worse teasm in the nfl hang around like that. Today set up for a upset for a number of reasons. Number of inactives for the Saints including Greer, Sharper, Ellis, and Moore. Not to leave out loosing Porter today also. For the past two weeks the flu has been going around the Saints organization, that surely played a part. Rams had two weeks to prepare, and with the defensive mind of the Rams HC that's huge.At the end of the day, we're 9-0. We're finding ways to win, and that's what the best teams do. We'll likely be back at near full strength either next week or the week after, then we'll start rolling again. falconsd56
Rams expose Saints' weaknessThe Saints had problems defending the run, which allowed an overmatched Rams team to hang tight. Led by Steven Jackson, St. Louis ran 29 times for 141 yards for an average of 4.9 yards per attempt. Most of the success came on runs between the tackles. Although New Orleans used a lot of eight- and nine-man fronts to stop Jackson, he routinely found creases in the middle of the defense. While the Saints were able to overcome the stellar effort to remain unbeaten, the continuing theme of allowing runners to have big games on the ground (DeAngelo Williams rushed for 149 yards and Michael Turner had 151 yards rushing the previous two games) could prove to be problematic as games gain importance down the stretch. While im not big on "experts" takes its 100% truth.Credit the saints for being resilient but in the nfl you can not continue to let teams hang around like they have over the last several weeks, you can not continue to have to pray for big kick returns, or fumbles on the goal line from backs who never fumble. When you need those types of plays there will be some point you wont get them.Law of averages catches up to everyone................... it did the Pats in 07, who where better then the saints are now, It did the Titans last year who started out what 10-0? Here's why:1- The Saints have a DE playing DT. With Sedrick Ellis in the lineup, the Saints have given up 83 rushing yards per game. Without him, they've given up 120 yards. What do you expect when your missing one of your top defensive players and then playing three of the leagues top rushing teams and arguably the most talented back in the NFL? Gregg Williams isn't overly worried, and neither am I. The Saints are being hit with injuries against the best of the NFL. It's all about the dominos.2- The starting Saints corners were Randall Gay and Malcolm Jenkins. Plus Torrence saw a ton of playing time. Here are some numbers for you about playing time with those three guys:Gay- 18, 30, 15, 19, 22, 16, 31, 20Jenkins- 1, 4, 6, 0, 0, 0, 0, 11Torrence- 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0It's very hard to expect a nickel and two guys who see the field less than the tee retriever to be thrown in the fire and perform at a high level, nomatter who the recievers are. Not to leave out Usama Young and Pierson in for Sharper, which was also a huge blow. Neither Greer or Sharper have serious injuries, and both could have played this game. Lastly, I don't know what the numbers say, but Donnie Avery is a pretty solid reciever. In the NFL, teams coming off the bye win nearly 70% of the games I believe. It doesn't matter who your playing, a game coming off the opponents bye, IN THEIR HOUSE, will be tough.Lastly, the Rams have Brooks Foster and Laurent Robinson on IR, so I don't know how the last statement was really relevant. falconsd56
btw its funny............ when I talk about the in experience of the qbs the saints played through the first 6 games of the season........ It was called whining and excuses...But now a saints fans uses that logic as far to why the RAMS........... ranked in the bottom of nearly every major offensive category......... a team that even after today averages 11 points a game, and a qb with a qb rating below 75Pretty much carved up the saints....But the injuries and experience are "reasons" now right? falconsd56
I second that. They've shown to be human lately but I don't care what the scores are? Winning is winning, although, I don't think P. Manning would let you skate by like that. Could it be the battle of the unbeaten teams for the SB?They are a very good team but injuries aside....... They were playing the RAMS.The saints defense has been average **** close to what the rams offense has been averaging in terms of points. That said barring some complete and utter meltdown they have the south wrapped up, and its going to be tough for any nfc team to have to go to NO for a playoff game. falconsd56
True, if they don't go to the SB at this point it would be one helluva letdown IMO.I think so too.But they still have some tough games, they have the cowboys coming in, they have the pats coming in, they still have to go to Atlanta and Carolina ,and they have to travel to tampa..... which is a big mismatch for the bucs because the saints are better in every way...... but they were better in every way the the rams.... but that did not have the divisional hatred involved. So the season is a long ways away from being over and nothing is given, but If they do win the south like they should and they do get home field............... they are going to be hard as f*&^ to beat on the road for any nfc team..A vikes- saints nfc title game would be entertaining. Dago
let's give the rundown on our injuries yesterday2 starting DTs (Clancey and Ellis)2 starting CBs (Porter and Greer)1 starting FS (Sharper)1 starting FB (Evans)1 starting LT (Brown)#3 WR (technically Moore isnt a starter, but the Saints run tons of 3 WR sets and he was our leading receiver last year)so that is 8 out of 22 starters who could be on the field. nearly 50% of our defensive starters and 36% of our team overall and you are going to say we didnt win good enough?any team that can have all those injuries and still pull out a victory against anybody played a good game. When I point out guys like Kolb and Henne, and their inexperience and them playing due to injury it was "excuses" as far as to why those teams did not win.Now Nola is trotting out the number of games started by the saints defensive players as an "EXCUSE" to why they got carved up by one of the worse offense's in football. All I heard from a lot of you saints fans were basically " no its just the saints defense is just that good"type responses.9-0 is fantastic, and I mentioned in another thread how the saints barring a mets style meltdown have the division wrapped up, and how its going to be extremely difficult for another team to go into the superdome in the playoffs and win. But The saints right now are playing with fire... you cant stop the run, and you are turning the ball over way too much and had that been most other teams in the nfc yesterday the saints probably would be 8-1 right now.Call it whining, call it excuses, call it what ever you want, but its the truth.... history has shown it be FACT over and over again. I don't really care about an undefeated season...I care that we are nearly in the playoffs and that our injuries on defense should be healed by the time we get there. Despite the fact that our injuries havent gotten the press that the Colts' did, the truth is that we have lost more starters. Good teams find ways to win and that's what the Saints have done. Nothing else matters.
