vel
To be totally honest about our situation, I'm not surprised at our struggles. Think about it: 1. Jenkins by about this time in the season would be a #3 receiver because we would have had Douglas to take his spot. Last year, Douglas was very consistent in the opportunities he was given. We are struggling in the pass game because we only have two legit wide outs to throw to: Gonzalez and White. 2. Jerry got hurt and he was providing so much disruption in our middle unlike JA98. Now I'm not saying that JA98 has been bad, but Jerry was significantly better at the spot. 3. Norwood. Change of Pace RB. Dynamite. Think about the one thing our offense hasn't ran yet: the screen pass. We ran it to slow a$$ Jenkins thinking he would outrun or even break a couple tackles. Makes no sense. Even Snelling with Norwood would have been just as good as Norwood and Turner. 4. Brian Williams' injury exposed our lack of talented corners. Yea they aren't sh!t but they can't cover for the 3-4 seconds necessary for when we bring added pressure. They don't have faith in their own skills/speed. Look at the corners when the Steelers play/blitz. They aren't bailing on every play. Williams' didn''t because he knew his limitations and play to them extremely well. 5. Sam Baker was out so I guess it had an impact on Ryan not trusting the pocket or whatever but it is another injury to a key player. Svitek handled the run well but I didn't see anything wrong on the pass. 6. Elam: I know this one isn't injury related but how are you one of the best kickers a few years ago and you can't kick a 30 yard field goal. I guess this is why Morten Anderson was such a special man. I thought that should be a chip shot to take the lead but obviously is harder than that for a washed up kicker. Then to try and blame it on Koenen when all you had to do was kick a ball. The hold was fine you just suck. I'm not one to bash on this site but that is not going to slide. Besides Tampa Bay's kicking issues we have the worst kicker in the NFC @ 64%. Obviously this will be corrected in the offseason but this shouldn't be an issue inside of 50 yards and ideal conditions. Now this speaks to our needs for next year: We need a strong CB (obviously), a DE to groom to eventually replace Abe because he was obsolete even after Gross went down, a complement to Roddy (Douglas), and a KICKER! Whether you agree or not, I feel this is an appropriate thread to comment on to let frustrations out.

thanat0s
Injuries have definitely taken their toll on us this year. It always seems to happen the year after we have a winning season. One big reason we've never had them back to back. We do have better depth now, but it still shows that we are building and not yet "built". We still have fairly significant drop offs in talent from 1 to 2 at most positions. The mistakes are what they can control, though. We are a very young team and they need to get back to basics and learn to be alot more focused on trying to be perfect on every play. Some of them are starting to get a little sloppy lately. Our QB isn't immune to this, either. All in all, I still see us with 10 wins at the end. Playoffs or not, 9-10 wins is fine with me. I've always thought next year was going to be our big year and I still do.
vel
i had the same thought too. This is the year we truly see what we have at our foundation basically what has been happening and then after one more solid draft that is when we take off into elite status. sorry for posting a pretty valid observation Jim but thanks for the hit
