Recommended Posts

FLOWERY BRANCH, GA – The Atlanta Falcons today signed free agent running back Aaron Stecker, placed safety William Moore on injured reserve, placed cornerback Glenn Sharpe on practice squad-injured and signed safety Eric Brock to the practice squad.

Stecker, 5-10, 213 pounds, is a nine-year NFL veteran who has participated with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2000-03) and New Orleans Saints (2004-07). In 120 career games (16 starts), the Western Illinois graduate has totaled 381 carries for 1,511 yards and eight touchdowns. He has also contributed with 161 receptions for 1,141 yards and three touchdowns and 167 kickoff returns for 3,880 yards and one score.

In 2007, Stecker registered career highs in carries (115), yards (448) and touchdowns (five). In his first year with New Orleans (2004), he contributed with 18 kickoff returns for 469 yards and was voted NFC Special Teams Player of the Week (15) after recording a 98-yard kickoff return for a touchdown against Tampa Bay. As a member of the Buccaneers in 2002, Stecker was the primary kickoff returner and registered 37 returns for 934 yards, helping his team to a Super Bowl XXXVII victory.

Moore, a Falcons 2009 draft selection, was placed on injured reserve with a hamstring injury. He competed in two games and notched two special teams tackles against Chicago in Week 6.

Sharpe was signed to the Falcons practice squad on August 31, 2008 where he remained for the majority of the season last year. He started the ’09 campaign on the practice squad for the first six games of the season before being moved to practice squad-injured.

Brock was also a member of the Falcons practice squad last season before being elevated to the 53-man roster for the season finale against St. Louis. He spent the 2009 training camp with Atlanta before he was released by the team on September 4, 2009.

This draft was a wash for this year ..so TD has knocked out 1 draft out of ball park and we will see 3 years from now if any of the 09' draft will have any impact down the road but I can see the first 2 picks being on the injured reserve plenty

10' draft we are missing 2nd round and 7th round picks but hope to be made up with conditional picks

Stecker wont see the field..

Thats just bad luck... first 2 picks under injury reserve..

If you want to look at it as 2 positives tho.

1. Both can sit and really learn the scheme for next year.

2. Since we didn't really get to use either this year....Its almost like adding 2 1st round talent players with the 2010 draft and freeagency class.

I don't think they had a choice - if they dropped him down to the practice squad - he would have been snatched. They had to make room for the changes they are making.

This is a very good point. Time to get him healthy for next yr. He came into this yr with a knee surgery. Next yr will be like having two drafts though with Jerry and Moore coming back at 100%. They need to work there Azzes off this offseason to get in better shape though.
