gacowboy
Except for his performance in playoff games and a couple of important regular season games, there isn't any standard by which Tony Romo is anything less than a star quarterback. If he doesn't deserve credit because of his poor performances in a few big games, then I guess Peyton Manning's career was pretty much worthless for his first 5 years as well. Nobody doubted that Peyton Manning was a star by 2003, but he still had not won a playoff game.Yup Exactly. I agree Romo needs to win some playoff games before he is Elite, but he is still good. gacowboy
But not every throwing down though...............Remember T.O. WHINING ENDLESSLY to the press about how he never got the ball. Roddy and Jenks and our receivers aren't moaning about not getting the ball, because Matt Ryan knows how to DISTRIBUTE the ball around the field. Its called being a Quarterback. Not a media darling. This year Witten has 5 more catches that Gonzo. 23-28. Oh yeah thats a huge difference.
Herr Doktor
Great post by a sensible fan. And btw, to the OP all I hear is people bashing Romo. The media doesn't consider him a star qb anymore. Even now while they consider him struggling he's still one of the better qb's in the league statistically. Romo became good too fast. He's still solid. He put up 300+ yards last week with receivers the league never heard of. He's still a threat. I think the Giants game is what killed him. His reputation anyway. Its hard to shake the "Haterade". In the numbers there is always truth. I just love hating the Frickin Cowboys, because I am so sick of hearing their name. No disrespect, just love to hate them. And Romo is the poster child for that franchise. So, by association, he is the focal point of the ire. Can't take his numbers away though.... Izo#2883
John Madden said it lol. Plus when he took over for the Cowboys they were sucking with Bledsoe and he won a bunch of games. But Madden was the one who said he was 'Favrelike' and playing for the Cowboys adds tooHe could be referring to the Atlanta Favre and not the Green Bay Favre.. I dunno. The people who hate the Cowboys are just as much responsible for their media coverage as the people who loves them. ESPN and other media outlets cater to the Cowboys because people love to see them win and people love to see them lose. That's a huge market. That's why they receiver so much media attention. Nothing personal, its just nice to see and hear other teams rocking. Plus lets face it, Romo is a pretty boy. We all hate pretty boys

He also had 3,500 yards, and 38 TD's in his 3 years in Dallas. Cut outright. They just expected Romo to keep on as he had been in his first 3 years? Ridiculous. savage_of_the_deadly_skies
Crazy what happens when you remove a premier receiver from his arsenal.Yeah. Reminds me of Culpepper after Moss was traded to Oakland. I still think Romo is a decent player, and can still get better.I guess nowadays when things are bleak the cowboys can talk about and brag about their new stadium more and how much america loves them. Stadium is not that great IMO. Worry more about the product on the field.
DoYouSeeWhatHappensLarry
Well there's a few reasons.1) He's a Dallas Cowboy.2) He has played pretty well in general, despite his big game yips. This season he hasn't been very good but in prior seasons he has.3) His name is Tony Romo. I think thats a prototypical "star" type name and people like to say it so they hyped him up.I really think the name is the biggest reason. duncja
Do you think one bad game against the Giants outweighs his entire career?I think this year is showing that he needed T.O. more than everyone thought. Take away the #1 receiver and now he has nothing.Against TB and KC(combined 1-11) he has 704 yards, 5 TD's, 0 INT's. His OTHER 3 games, he had 637 yards, 1 TD, 4 INT's. Do we say well, Joe Montana and Steve Young weren't that good because they had Jerry Rice, John Taylor, and Terrell Owens? Every accomplished quarterback has good receivers. Tony Romo basically had one bad game this year. He's performed pretty well in every other game they've played, even the loss at Denver, although the game plan of throwing at Champ Bailey 17 times was a bit flawed. Herr Doktor
I guess its how you look at a QB. To me, the best QB in the league, ounce for ounce right now is Drew Brees. He has touch, intelligence and a great receiving corps. Now, take Brees away from Colston and Meacham and Henderson and Bush and Moore, and put him with the Cowboys receivers, would he be as good? I guess what I am saying, a great QB is great, with or without great receivers. Its hard to prove, unless you have a situation where said QB has his top receivers taken from him, via trades or FA. Romo had Galloway and T.O. taken away. And admittedly, he is still on a pretty decent pace for total yardage this season. BUT, would he be better with T.O? Probably. But its all subjective. I like the way our QB plays. You can see the way he checks down, he is confident and rarely has that confidence shaken. Romo, to me, hasn't got a handle on the mental aspect of the game. When he gets down, its over for him. I think when he can break that, he will be lights out. No one questions his arm. I think the questions are more mental. papashango
Was that against Tampa Bay or Kansas City? What does that have to do with anyting? Are you saying that is the 1st time he's ever faced bad teams lol? He's faced bad teams every year since he's gotten in the league yet he's just now setting his career high? And btw, the Bucc's are 11th in the league in passing defense. They only give up 199 yards per game.
