2010 Draft Needs

Recommended Posts

I'm not really looking to find a #1 CB. It would definitely be great to get one, but there are not many #1 CBs in the league right now. I just want to get a reliable player who can really solidify a starting spot in the future and consistently perform at a good level. I do want him to have that #1 potential though.

The guy who really strikes me is Trevard Lindley from Kentucky. We have gradually gotten rid of that Cover 2 scheme and have become a more attacking/blitzing defense. That type defense leaves our CBs in Man Coverage on an island a lot.

Lindley does need to work on playing in more zone coverage, but he has been so good in Man coverage that Kentucky really doesn't play much else.

What we need is a CB with size, playmaking ability, and also the ability to play Man coverage at a high level...... that is Trevard Lindley.

The reason why most rookies don't start at CB is because they have trouble in Man, but Lindley is the exact opposite and can really allow our defense to be even more aggressive. That is why I like him for our team.

Every scouting report I have read has said that he is EXCELLENT in Man Coverage. That is exactly what we need.

I am hoping that we draft Devin McCourtey in the 3rd or 4th and sign a FA if Hill doesnt work out

Hakim I know that you mentioned about Grimes struggling against Taller WR, but i want to know when has he struggled against bigger WR this year, He did well against Muhammed, but we will see in Dallas when he goes up against Miles Austin. Grimes might make his claim on the CB spot throughout this year, I have faith in him too.

Muhammed is like 1232234234 years old and he was playing with a struggling QB in Jake Delhomme.

It has happened too many times in the past for me to really trust Grimes. He is ALWAYS in good position, but those bigger WRs just use their bodies to shield him. He is also too small to play press ocverage on those guys and you just cannot give good WRs free releases.

I am definitely rooting for Grimes to do well. I would never root against somebody on our team to prove a point. Going off past experiences, I just do not have much confidence in him.

Well he did get good jams on Hester and Knox last game, so we will see this game if he can handle himself against Austin. Grimes just needs to improve his funtional strength in regardins to tackling and not allowing himself to be shieded. Most big CB are bigger than 90% of Cb in the league size wise, but they use their strength to not allow themselves to be shielded. So I will continue to watch him hopefully improve.

...And Hester and Knox are both small, burner WR's.

That is why I think he is an ideal nickel corner, he matches up fine with guys like that.

And I have read some reports on Lindley that say he is good in man coverage also, but I guess I prefer to see it for myself. He has been nicked up this year though and ESPN's camera angles are horrible for watching DB's. It's pretty annoying because CB is one position that I think we are absolutely going to have to address this year.

And I think you meant to say most WR's are bigger than most of the CB's in the league, and that is true. But that doesn't mean that Grimes can bulk up to prevent himself from being shielded. If that was all it took guys like Gates and Gonzalez wouldn't be such huge match-up nightmares. Everyone would just get stronger and the size advantage would be negated.

It just doesn't work like that.

I am not talking about TE, and yes i meant WR's, thanks for catching that. YOu arent going to find alot of WR that are the same weight as TG or Gates and those two represent match-up problems for any CB, that is why you find alot of teams putting safeties or LB on them so that the matchup is not as advantageous compared to a CB.

The thing about Grimes is that he has excellent leaping ability, He can jump through the roof so that may take some of the height advantage away, but the strength thing is still a factor in him assuring that he is in the right position to make a play.

You are a quick quoter, I tried to erase some of what I said because after I read it over when I posted it I didn't think it was entirely correct. Because if a player has poor strength or is too light (Mike Mickens was a good example of this last year. Dude was skinny as ****) he can be "boxed out" or shielded from the ball easily. So if you are stronger it helps to prevent that from happening. However as a smaller corner you have to be stronger just to improve your odds to those of taller corners with longer arms.

I am starting to see a trend with your opinions, you really seem to have a lot of faith in guys we currently have on the roster. lol. You really seem to like Grimes, you love Adkins and you like Bierman quite a bit (I like Bierman too).

I guess I don't have the same faith in those guys that you do.

And I'm the one who can't understand the love ... Grimes can't tackle and is too small, no matter what his leaping ability is, he's just too small for a #1 or 2 corner. Adkins has potential, but he needs at least 1 more season to develop into something useful ... and Biermann might be the boards new favorite, but he's nothing more than a good rotational guy and maybe could take over for Abe in some years if he works hard, but he's not in Abe's league when it comes to talent and he's not the long-term-solution for the LDE spot.

We do need a experienced corner (maybe even 2) ... we do need somebody with good/great talent to replace Peterson in 2011 ... we do need a starting LDE ... we still need quality depth at DT, ... our defense just isn't anywhere near what I would like to see.

I think it has been a big misunderstanding and ATL Brave got madd. Since this is the NFL Draft and FA Agency forum i tend to think about the offseason and what to do around draft time, not soo much about what is going on now. I know that Beirmann is playing LDE and he is playing DT too on some downs, because the coaches want his skill on the field. I am looking over the long run at who will fill the void at LDE, and I have questions about both Sidbury and Biermann at LDE, more so for Beirmann because of his size. I do agree that if we keep Beirmann as a rotational DE then him playing LDe would be the best choice, kind of like a Robert Mathis type of role. I want use to draft a traditional pass/run LDE like Morgan or Griffen.

I still dont like Beirmann as the Starting LDE going forward and he would be a better option as a Fulltime RDE as opposed to a Fulltime starting LDE, based on his size.

When was I mad? Annoyed yes, mad, **** no. That's how I talk, and nothing anyone here can say or do would truly make me "mad". I just vehemently disagree with your opinions, and express it in my own words.

It is still not that serious to allow someone to annoy you. YOu seem as if your opinion is fact regarding Beirmann. YOu speculated about Beirmann adding weight and still being able to maintain his quickness. That is not fact, but you make it seem like you speak in factual terms. Basically you are laying out your opinion and I am laying mine out, neither you nor i know what is going to happen, again it is not that serious. Spend some time with your Girlfriend/Wife this weekend and lay off the football man. Hopefully you see the humor in that and not get your panties in a bunch again.

I just think that the dude(Adkins)has made some major strides thus far based on the moves made by the Coaching Staff and FO. I know that many of you seem to think that he is just a special teams ace, but he made the 53 man roster as a non-starting 5th round pick over a proven Vet in Jamie Winborn and over Robert James. I actually made sure that i looked at him while he was in the game and his speed was on display at the LB position in the preseason. I not only have a lot of faith in some of these players, but i have more faith in our Coaching staff, who many think is one of the best in the league. They have shown to get the best out of our players. Good Coaching combined with Raw Talent/Good work Ethic could mean a diamond in the rough in Adkins.
