SacFalcFan
It's down to UGA and Penn State. Here is an update on him, what do you think? One of the nation's top linebackers has reached the home stretch in his recruitment, as Stamford (Conn.) standout Khairi Fortt is close to announcing his decision.Fortt took his final visit this past weekend, when he traveled to Penn State to see the Nittany Lions take on Iowa."Everything went well, it was a little cold and rainy, but I still felt the excitement with the fans and the team," he said. "It was a tough loss, but it seemed like they played hard in the game."The four-star prospect made the trip with Stamford wide receiver Renard Desir, and mingled with friends and Penn State commitments Kevin Haplea and Dakota Royer."When I first came up, I saw some of the other recruits and commitments. I hung out with the coaches, and Kevin and a couple of the other O-linemen that had already committed," he said. "After the game, it was a tough loss, so nobody really wanted to go out or anything. So we just went around town and got some pizza or whatnot. It was a good time."He also took a few minutes to speak with head coach Joe Paterno."I was talking to JoePa, and telling him what it was coming down to, and that I was making my decision next Monday," he said. "And whether or not I picked his school, he was still a great coach."The No. 30 player in the country, according to Rivals.com, has narrowed his list to two schools, and he will be announcing his decision next week."It's still a fight between Georgia and Penn State," he said. "I'm going to be making my announcement on Monday, when the [u.S. Army] All-American people come down and do something at my school. I'm going to talk to the coaches and everything, and talk to my family about where I'm going to be for the next four years. It's a pretty tough decision on my part, because both schools have most of the same qualities."Campus Life, Academics, I know they both tied in the APR rating with a 976. Also, the linebacker depth, they're both pretty decent with linebackers. Coaches, staff, I like both of them the same, so now it's just up to what I feel about the school; whether I want my parents come see my play three hours away and have some of my other friends see me, or if my family is going to move down to Georgia, and have my aunts and uncles in Georgia and Alabama come see me play."So yeah, I've got a pretty tough decision."Rivals.com will be on hand to cover the announcement. A time has not yet been confirmed.Fortt has missed some time this season with a minor knee injury, and Stamford has sputtered out of the gate with an 0-2 record to start the year. Fortt is hopeful that he will be able to return for Friday's clash with Brien McMahon."It's getting better, I had a mild ACL sprain, so I've been going to rehab the past three days and I'm progressing over time," he said. "I was hoping to try to play this week, but I just kind of started jogging this week, and my therapist is telling me that I might be able to play, but I just have to let it heal and take it day by day." Nicolae
I said we dropped the ball on Fortt in response to Sac saying that he was going to PSU. I really think we should have been able to get this kid.

Ransack
I think that pretty much sums up the problems that are at UGA right now.

SacFalcFan
sorry for your loss dawg fans, but according to the article you did it to yourself.no we didn't.. his best friend and all his buddies are going to penn state.. we were a nice trip for him, but he wasn't coming here. penn state fans have him as a lock the entire time. this is the same kid and father who wrote a very stern email and publicly went after the website who claimed he committed to joe pa 2 weeks ago and then today khairi admitted he did commit to joe pa that weekend. You also don't lose something you never had in the first place.

Dawgy
just saw this....AJC College Sports RecruitingFortt admits he’d decided on Penn State 4 weeks ago11:26 pm October 5, 2009, by Chip TowersJust to close the door on Khairi Fortt saga and be done with it (for this week any way), The Stamford Times updated the news the elite linebacker’s decision to choose Penn State over Georgia with a report from Fortt’s actual announcement during an assembly at his high school Monday afternoon.Fortt, considered one of the top linebackers in the country, did not address earlier reports that he had been abandoned by his two Georgia hosts during his official visit to Athens on Sept. 12 (though it is mentioned in Monday’s newspaper account). But he did say that he has known he was going to go Nittany Lions for at least a month and told coach Joe Paterno two weeks ago.“I’ve been keeping it a secret for about four weeks and I’ve been eager to get it out,” Fortt told the crowd. “I’m happy it’s over with and I just get to focus on my senior year, helping my [high school] team win and focusing on my grades.”Simple math tells you Fortt had his mind made up before he visited Georgia.Based on the hometown account, it’s a surprise Fortt ever considered anywhere else. He’s best buddies and training partners with another Stamford product, RB/DB Silas Redd, who had long been verbally committed to attend Penn State. Both players plan to graduate early and hope to room together. But Fortt said he had more than 30 scholarship offers and visited 17 schools before making his final decision.“It’s been a long process, a grueling process actually, but it was a good experience,” Fortt was quoted as saying. “I got to see a lot of different schools and meet a lot of different coaches and see all those towns and cities. But I’m happy with my decision.”

I'm hanging by a thread... had to take the day off..... darn it Dawgs .actually this situation is a lot like the situation with dre kirpatrick last year who whined he wasn't given attention by our coaches or his hosts.. He was already committed to bama and he was trying to recruit players to go to bama so he was kept separate from the real recruits who weren't being complete and utter tools.. khairi was going to penn state and frankly i believe him about this situation as I believed him and his dad when they swore he didn't commit to joe pa. It's nice for rival fans to talk smack when they do something well against us, but don't use a recruiting update and your lack of knowledge of the situation to talk anything. For a 1st year starter he needs those reps and that preparation, but to avoid dead arm issues they give him rest during the week. Frankly he shouldn't be starting. This ut game IMO will be the difference between a 9-3 year or a 7-5 year.
