Contender or pretender? Patriots' loss provides proof the Falcons are one-hit wonders

Even when the Falcons were having some success last year, the success didn't translate into more people coming to the Georgia Dome and filling up the stadium, because many didn't believe the Matt Ryan hype or that Tom Dimtroff is the wunderkid GM. It is somewhat fitting the day that the Falcons slowly revert back to the days of Chris Miller and Scott Campbell, it is the same day that Michael Vick is able to resume his career with another team despite many proclamations that Vick's NFL career was over. Vick covered up a lot of the organization's weaknesses in regard to personnel, but time will tell Matt Ryan won't have that knack to do the same. However, Michael Turner has become one the better RBs in the league and he is the only reason why the Falcons were able to get to the playoffs. Now more and more teams are focusing on limiting Turner and make Matt Ryan prove his 'greatness'. No Kansas City on the schedule. No more Detroit. Carolina is worse than we thought with Jake Delohmme. No more cupcakes for the Falcons and we will see whether the Falcons, Dimitroff and Matt Ryan specifically are contenders or pretenders.

Tony Gonzalez had success early, but will he just fade into the sunset at 34 as teams begin to figure out the Falcons' offense? Will Tony start to get frustrated with the coaching staff and how he is utilized? By Week 8 or 9, will he start talking about retirement--again?

Defensively, the Falcons remind me of the 2006 team. Lots of holes all around from the defensive line to the secondary. Curtis Lofton is good young player, but wasn't Michael Boley? Bryan Scott? Outside of Lofton, Dimitroff will fall into the same trap of not being able to develop young players via the draft. Peria Jerry with his injury prone reputation didn't disappoint and unfortunately he is out for the season. Shocker. Jerious Norwood who teases and is equally injury prone is out. Shocker. When will Jamaal Anderson have his breakout season? Folks, Jamaal is worse than Aundray Bruce.

Grtizblitzer and folks at the AJC know the San Fran game will be one of the early benchmark games for the Falcons. Singletary who was shunned by the Falcons would love the opportunity to show Mr. Blank how big of a mistake he made in choosing Mike Smith as head coach. Believe this Michael Turner will the main focus of the 49ers defense and Patrick Willis will be assigned to Gonzalez. It will be a tough game, but after San Fran, the Falcons face Dallas, New Orleans, and eventually meet up with Philly with 'YKW"...

Huggers are the lowest forms of life, why don't you spend your time writing your hero love letters and LEAVE US ALONE. Oh and you're just as racist as George Wallace ever was...

Some of the folks on the local radio shows at 790/680 and on this board act more like George Wallace. How does Arthur like half-filled Georgia Domes? And what will happen in December when Philly meets Atlanta?

"Us"...your hero Matt Ryan is another Jeff George or Chris Miller

Dude you are way high!..... Matt Ryan the next kyle boller? hahaha thats enough to show you are an idiot! hahaha, you think we hired the wrong smith? i dare you to be the first one to post and say im sorry after we beat the 49ers, every team loses, and lose big! this was a wake up call! we need to fight every yard every game, the fact that we lost to a very good team doesnt mean any of the things you said... you have to learn some football

We know that the Falcons can beat flawed, struggling teams such as the 0-3 Panthers and the 0-3 Dolphins. However, can the Falcons beat more balanced teams--especially on the road.

Last year, the Falcons couldn't beat a NFC South rival on the road. As of now, that streak is intact.

Opposing teams are keying in on limiting Turner and right now it is working... Matt Ryan is just an over-hyped manager and will be facing exponentially more defensive pressure in the next few weeks... Watch as the INTs, fumbles and excuses grow...

I knew you would get flamed for this. After a while you'll learn to not post anything on these boards other than the Falcons are the BEST and, they'll win the Super Bowl. The Dome is half empty though.

It's amazing how the Dome was filled for six consecutive years under YKW, but after the great Matt Ryan's 2008 performance it still hasn't convinced folks to spend money to go to the Georgia Dome. There were waiting lists at one time, but no more..I wonder why? Hmmm.. I venture to say the Georgia Dome will be sold out for the Philadelphia Eagles home game...

Guess you missed the part where the economy has left most teams in the NFL without consistently filled stadiums.

The only reason the dome would be filled against the Eagles would be do to the fact the Falcons are ripping up the league while Ookie continues to sit on the bench and come in to make a run and miss every single one of his passes. Looks like Kolb has the starting job on lock down, and can't even beat out Jeff Garcia for the starting job. The Ookster looks to be on his way out if anything. Say hi to TJ Duckett after you get done writing your love letter to the Ookster.

Kolb is Joey Harrington, Jr. and Garcia won't last long just like Chad Pennington. Vick is in Philly for a reason and will play an increasingly incremental role in the Eagles' success.

Yeah, Kolb has really looked like Harrington so far.

Seriously man, you're the reason why I'm pro-choice.

Just like Harrington and Schaub and others, they are just teases who flame out when pressured...

Vick has been away two years and Schaub has yet to led the Texans to the playoffs..

Everybody looks great against KC..
