Green have been given Southeastern Conference weekly awards following their performances versus Arizona State, according to a league announcement on Monday.Houston was named the SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week and Green was named the SEC Offensive Player of the Week.Houston, a 6-3, 259-pound native of Statesboro, Ga., tied for fourth on the team with four tackles (all solo), including the team’s only sack and two tackles for loss, during the Bulldogs’ 20-17 win over Arizona State.Houston, who has taken over the starting spot after senior Rod Battle suffered a season-ending knee injury, helped hold the Sun Devils to just 88 yards rushing and only 116 yards passing. He is the first Georgia defensive end to win this award since Charles Johnson in 2006 (versus Ole Miss).Green, a 6-4, 207-pound native of Summerville, S.C., caught a game-high eight passes, including a career-long 56-yard reception, for 153 yards and a touchdown against Arizona State. This was his fourth 100-yard receiving game and the second this season.He is leading the league in yards receiving (428), receiving yards per game (107.0) and receptions per game (6.2). In addition, Green had his first career field goal block in the fourth quarter to help clinch the Bulldogs’ win.This was Houston’s first SEC weekly award. Green was named the 2008 SEC Freshman of the Year, but this is his first weekly award in 2009. Green also earned SEC weekly honors following the Bulldogs’ victory over the Sun Devils in 2008.The Bulldogs return to action against #4 LSU in Athens on Saturday, Oct. 3. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. and the game will be shown on CBS. Verne Lundquist (play by play), Gary Danielson (color) and Tracy Wolfson (sideline) will be CBS’s announcers for the game.
