Stop running the football

It is obvious that teams have chosen there poison. They have decided that the falcons will not beat them in the running game. They are stacking the box and refusing to allow big rushing plays. So, stop running the football and throw it for gods sake. Quit trying to force the run when its not there.Use the passing game to set up the running game and if they keep the box loaded then keep throwing. The pick your poison theory only works if you take what the defenses are giving you. We are unstoppable in the passing game and yet the coaching staff refuses to utilize all the weapons it has. I hope they rethink the offensive game plan and stop trying to force the issue of being a running team. Turner and the line are doing all they can do but teams are just overmatching them in sheer numbers on the inside. Once we prove we can win by just throwing the football the running game will get back to normal, until then teams will just continue to focus on the run.

I do think that we need to make teams pay with the passing game when it is so obvious that they are stacking the box to stop the run. I've seen this 3 weeks in a row thus far. About to pull my hair out watching teams continually loading up to stop the run. And what do we do? Run right into the trap. It's insanity.

I agree. It feels like our play calling is driven by a determination to stick to a game plan that was set in stone the week before the game. Instead, we need to truly do what we say we will do, which is TAKE WHAT THE DEFENSE GIVES US. Clearly, early on, they're focusing on the run. But I'm confident that, if we let Matt Ryan take the game on his shoulders, he can beat teams with the pass ... especially with all the offensive weapons we have.

Let's let Ryan walk up to the line, get a read, and then call the play. He is a clutch guy and a competitive guy, so he will make plays when given this freedom. Then we'll see the benefits of the loaded offense we have.

Exactly, the chains need to be removed from matt. I know the team wants to be a running team but until we prove we can win the other way they will stack the box. Its time to start trusting Matt to win these close games. I know Smitty is a defensive coach, but he has to stop punting the ball away and putting it on the D to make stops. We will not win games with our defense. We will win them with our offense, as long as we take what is given.

I fell like that is part of the reason we lost this game. We stopped running the ball. You don't give up running if you are only down one or two scores.

you do what works. they didnt give up on the running game and that was a huge problem. It went no were fast. Teams wont let us beat them running anymore. Yes, if you are down two scores and the team is loading the box you use your potent passing offense. Now, I'm not saying completely do away with the running game but scale it back big time especially when it isnt working.

I don't think we were that ineffective running. I just believe that as strong as we are we should have kept going with it. In the second half we had the ball plenty of times but we just kept throwing it. Turner gets stronger as the game goes on and there was plenty of times when he was able to get good yardage. We had 3 three and out in a row I think.

Bill is a master mind when it comes to things like this. We gave up on our bread and butter and decided to try and let Matt win it for us. In that hostile environment with the rain I just think we got out coached.

Add a little home cooking in there with the refs and that bad fumble and we just plain got beat.

Agree that we were out coached. Thats what really cost us this game. Poor decision making on both sides of the ball.

I disagree we need to run more effectively but we cannot abandon our identity. The run helps with field position and it helps give your defense a little rest. After the Turner fumble we got out of our element and let the patriots dictate and control the game. They were playing the way we should have. Pound the ball and take your chances. How many 3rd and shorts did they have. They got into the redzone so many times on the back of an aging Fred Taylor. When they tried to pass in the Redzone we held them to field goals for the most part. Our OL must play better in the rush they did pretty well in pass protection.
