Nose Tackle (NT)

The truth is the lost of Grady Jackson is bigger then what people realize. Abraham, Babineaux, and Davis had alot of success last year because massive Grady Jackson commanded the double teams. While I like Peria Jerry, I think he would be best in passing situation with Babineaux, Abraham, & Biermann in the line-up. Picking up a true NT (Terrance Cody) or a solid LE who can do it all like the Gators(Dunlap)in next years draft is a must. If the Falcons wants to continue just rushing only four, they are going to need a run stuffing NT to make the down and distance longer for the pass rushers I listed above.

For the last two weeks both Carolina and New England has figured out when Biermann enters the game we are expecting pass and they do the opposite and run. Biermann has been getting pushed off his block. When they do decide to pass they keep a extra player back to pass protect.

Getting a massive NT to rotate with Jerry will help relief pressure off of Abraham, Babineaux, & Biermann to do their thing. At the same time the LB's can make more plays.

While up in coming Decoud can continue to fly around the field and help disrupt plays.

Grady was overrated, our run defense was horrible even when he was here.

Grady didn't help. We still gave up over 4 yards a carry.

Regardless he was a body you would rarely find back there with the linebackers even with the double teams

Mike Smith will be looking for a John Henderson type Nose Tackle next year

Jerry and Babs will rotate, Jerry did require a double team before he went down but when that happen he was taken out of the play and pushed back into the linebackers

Someone has to be able to win the battle at the line of scrimmage in order for us to be able to contain the run

We don't need a massive NT to play next to Babs, we just need a NT who handles double teams well, plays with good leverage and will maintain his gap responsibility. Grady handled double teams well because he was gigantic, but he did not maintain good gap responsibility which is why our run defense was only slightly better with him than it was without him (or that is how it seemed, I don't know what the stats showed).

We can get a DT that plays with good pad level and holds up well versus double teams to take some pressure off of Jerry at NT on run downs and I think that would be best. Cody is not the answer for us in my opinion but I don't want to open that can of worms yet. And Dunlap will be a top 10 pick if not a top 3-5 pick so I hope we aren't in that range by the end of the season.

Dont know if you can call a guy who led the league 2yrs straight in TFLs overrated. He helped shut down a very good RB in Portis today for Detroit.

The thing was he was a run-stuffer but he also pushed the pocket. When he wasnt stuffin runs, he was collapsing the pocket so that the QB couldnt step up. Now even if we get pressure on the outside there is no push from the middle so QBs can just step up and deliver.
