SaintsH8
I ask because it seems to me that they get pushed back a lot because they play at a lighter weight.
ugadawg
especially at NT. With Jerry in we had 2 UT in the game. I think a true NT has to be held up by 2 blockers as he pushes the pocket back. But weight is also not a true measure as they just have to have the strength to push a pocket back even if they are doubled.
thestufford
Yes they are... Even JA55 is a little undersized. After seeing us manhandled today, I really worried when we see the bigger O-lines like in Dallas.....

the evil emperor
With Grady Jackson in there, we had no problem stopping the run.350 lb UT makes everyone else's job easier.

(R) = sore loser
I am just sick and tired of the Falcons being pushed around and manhandled by the better teams! I want a dominant line!!!!! Either side of the ball will do....yet both lines are pushed around !!
Dharma Initiative
I'm going to have to disagree with you, he did not help our run d at all while he was here.Exactly, Grady made about 5 good plays a year and it artificially inflated everyone's perception of how 'good' he was. dirty bird 025
I ask because it seems to me that they get pushed back a lot because they play at a lighter weight.well when you watch the game and the defensive and offensive lineman step up together and the opposing offensive line is 5 times larger then your right....yea......were way too small. sdogg
We need to draft mostly DL and DB in the next draft.
SaintsH8
I have been looking at the teams that have been good at stopping the run, and I noticed that a lot of them have bigger and stronger tackles.Did you notice when we played Miami and New England their tackles were in the backfield a lot. BirdzEyeView
Great question, of which, I have no valid answer for at the moment!! All I know is our D-Line just seems to get bulldozed on run plays and NO PRESSURE AT ALL on passing plays!! Do we need to bring Grady Jackson back???? Something has got to give!!
DynomiteD
It also has a lot to do with our predictability. That could be helped if the coaching staff would step up the play calling a little bit.
sdogg
Didnt we do that last draft :ph34r:Yes we did, but we cannot depend on jerry cause he is fragile. We need to replace busterson cause that's obvious. I'm hoping another defensive sided draft and we get the right players for an elite D

isproab
Yes, my main concern is the DT spot. Trey Lewis is a good size, but the other DT's are too small. That is part of the reason why I was against the Jerry pick. Grady did a good job for us b/c he was a big rock in the middle. I would have liked to see a younger version of the same type of DT. Lou Dog
We cant fic the entire team all at once. Our O is set. Our Lbers have improved quite a bit. In the offseason look to see us add dome bulk to our DLine

NFL Draft Fan 07
It isn't necessarily that they are too small, though I was a bit concerned with playing Jerry at NT because he didn't always hold up well against double teams when I watched him. I think we could really use a 300-310 guy who plays with good leverage and has good strength to hold up versus double teams. Whether we draft him early or in the mid-round range is of no consequence to me, but we need to shore up the NT position. I am not sure Lewis has it anymore and Johnson is not the answer either.Babs is a little light but he is more of a rod coleman type player at UT so he does not concern me, plus he plays well versus the run generally and gets a good amount of TFL's and tackles close to the line of scrimmage. But if we had another good NT that was better versus double teams we could rotate Jerry at NT and UT and just have a lot more flexibility as a defensive front.JA needs to be upgraded as a starter but I wouldn't mind keeping him around (unless we can release him without a substantial cap hit) as depth versus the run, but that may not happen. We are in a bit of a pickle since we are getting no pressure with our front 4 and we are also having serious issues stopping the run. It really is the worst of both worlds right now, and it isn't something we can really fix or upgrade during the season.
