sporkdevil
" ESPN's Michael Smith reports that Wes Welker (knee) "expects" to play in Week 3, despite not practicing Wednesday.Smith, an ex-Boston reporter, says his Patriots sources feel good about Welker's chances of facing Atlanta. This all sounds good, but Smith admits Welker will ultimately come down to a game-time decision. He's likely to be "limited" in practice late this week and listed as questionable on Friday."I think even when he was playing his timing with Brady was off. I think he was out most of TC and PS. Clearly it would be better if he didn't play, as even when his timing is off he is good for like 100 yards.
bossFALCON™
i don't know i have welker on my fantasy squad to and last week they kept on saying that they expected him to play and he was expecting to play, then 8 minutes before kickoff i had to go out and pickup heyward-bey to replace him. either way i don't think it matters all that much because they have julian edelman who is wes welker 2.0. they both do the same thing and he put up wes welker type numbers against a good jets D last week. edelman's no slouch. Dedsquirl
Those little hitch screens they like to throw to him are nasty. But Nicholas and Peterson are pretty speedy.Hopefully his knee won't be in good enough shape to do a nasty plant juke on the CB before help gets there. Yeah, I heard at about 11, and switched him out for Santana Moss or something, and got pretty much the same number of points I would have had if I just started a non-playing Welker. And I hear that Edelman is good (I've never seen him play) but he is still young and making some mistakes. Just not as polished. At least we don't have to worry about Galloway, he is a total non-factor when he isn't covered by DeAngelo Hall. Peyton
If Welker is saying that he expects to play this week, it probably means he is out for the season. That's just the way the Pats do things.

ConnFalcon
Nothing is set in stone until gameday. They probobly want us to waste time on preparing for plays for Welker.

They probobly want us to waste time on preparing for plays for Welker.I don't think it would affect the gameplan much either way. The guy who took his place was exactly like him, did a very good Wes Welker impersonation. More than Welker not playing hurting the Pats last week, the fact that Brady just plain sucked last week hurt them. He didn't get sacked but he got hit a lot and that completely spooked him. slamee101
Who really knows with the Pats...I had no idea he was a possibility to sit until an hour before this past weekend.Either way, I don't expect their O to struggle like it did last week. If the guy had been wearing Welker's uniform, you would have sworn it was him out there. The amazing thing is that it was the first real football game the guy ever played at WR in his entire life. He was a QB in high school and college.
srichter23
i'm honsetly more worried about welker than randy moss. we can't do that soft coverage that we had on the panthers in the second half or else welker will break

Honestly, I don't think he is even going to play, but they have an explosive little guy named Julian Edelman taking his place, and he looks dangerous too.The good news is that Joey Galloway has looked terrible, looks like a completely shot football player. JayOzOne
I'm actually cool with our #1 and #2 CBs (with safeties to support them) but the thought of our nickel situation worries me. Also, our OLBs are going to have to stay on Watson and that might keep one of them out of run support.
Durrty
The Patriots have a lot of weapons on offense...Belichick does a great job of getting the most out of his players, but we have players on defense that match up pretty well with guys like Welker/Welker 2.0 and Watson. Grimes would be excellent at covering the slot and if you've noticed this season we haven't given up the big plays across the middle...a true testament to our LB core. Our defense just has to come out and play with intensity and that aggressiveness that they showed in the Miami game...we should be fine.
