BlacksburgHokie
Ranking Player Position Team Last Week1.Mark Sanchez, QBHe moves all the way to the top spot based on a solid road win in Houston. He did a nice job of using the underneath passing game early to set up play-action and some nice vertical throws. 122.Aaron Curry, OLBDrops only because of an outstanding game from Sanchez. He had just four tackles because the Seahawks didn't ask him to do a lot. As they need him to do more, they will give him more, but overall he got off to a solid start. 13.Percy Harvin, WR/RBHad five touches for 58 yards and one TD. More important, they used him often in different formations and motion, which drew attention and opened it up for Adrian Peterson on the ground and receivers in the passing game. 24.James Laurinaitis, LBHe led all rookie defensive players and took the early lead for Defensive Rookie of the Year with 15 tackles. He made a lot of plays, but when you break down the game too many of them came downfield, not at or around the line of scrimmage. 55.Kenny Britt, WRWide receiver is one of the toughest positions to develop at this level, but if Week 1 is any indication, Britt is well on his way to being a missing piece of the puzzle in Tennessee. He ran nice crisp routes and showed the ability to adjust his routes on the move. NR6.Rey Maualuga, ILBHad eight tackles and a number of explosive hits. He also did a nice job in underneath coverage, showing the instincts to close quickly on the ball. The Bengals' defense took big strides in Week 1 and Maualuga was a big part of that. 97.Michael Oher, RTOf the rookie offensive linemen who started, Oher had the best game. He did a nice job in protection and as a run-blocker, which showed in the Ravens' solid offensive performance. His ability to protect allowed TE Todd Heap to be more involved in the passing game, which will be critical to the offense this season. 168.Louis Delmas, SLost in the long day for the Lions' secondary was that Delmas had a few nice hits and an interception. He found himself out of position a few times, but you are going to get some big play/bad play from rookies at this position, and his big plays stood out. 89.Peria Jerry, DTHe had one tackle and one QB pressure, but you have to look at more than the numbers. He was able to play on the edges and at times drew double-teams that contributed to DE John Abraham's big-time game (two sacks and numerous pressures). 1410.Jason Smith, OTEven though the Rams' offensive line struggled, Smith actually held his own. He looked fairly solid one-on-one in space, but he does need to do a better job of adjusting to stunts and working combo blocks in the run game.http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4474796

Tootie Quivers
I noticed several double teams on Peria. His value won't be relayed on a stat sheet. He seems to be holding to the point and eating up blockers.

norbendon
Just checked and apparently both Kroy and Abe had 2 each.
The Gritz Blitz
Sanchez will run away with it. QBs always do when they play well. He did look good though, but that team was already **** good last year.

Finally
The "rookie" part, apparently.Maybe this will help:Main Entry: rook·ie Pronunciation: \ˈru̇-kē\Function: noun 1 : recruit; also : novice2 : a first-year participant in a major professional sport
Dedsquirl
It is easy to miss Abe's second sack.Pennington had given up on the pass and started to tuck and run.Abe lanced in and got him about half a yard from the line of scrimmage. Technically a sack, but really a TFL.Either way, great play.

RyanFalconMan
Peria Jerry is a monster in the middle. He is going to be a force already
cwell1
Kinda funny considering a lot of people were calling him a Keith Brooking clone...that's the same thing I thought when I saw him play in college. He was hyped alot and when I watched him closely he didn't shed blocks and make stops in the backfield or at the line, reminds me of Brooking exactly. cyofish
Sanchez will run away with it. QBs always do when they play well. He did look good though, but that team was already **** good last year.I still can't believe why Stafford was rated so high. He was always erratic in big games at Georgia. It seemed like the scouts fell in love with his potential more than his actual performance. In big games he would often had a great half and pee in his pants the other half. It probably would have been best to sit him behind Culpepper for a couple of years.
