Shredman
As a long time Falcons Fan, i have been here before.... The Falcon Playoff Teams i can really remember and seen myself started in 91 , We were Back in Black, had a nasty attitude that over shadowed our soft Run and Shoot Offense, We had swept The Beast of the NFC the SF 49ers , the game at Cadlestick became one of Falcon Lore , We Marched into the Playoffs as a Wildcard @ 10-6 , then we Marched Over the Saints in New Orleans in that waild card game... Times were good, the next week our season came to an end in the Mud of RFK Stadium , we were man handled by the Skins who went on to Win it all.....But we were Pumped for 92 ... we got our First Mil dollar Free Agent in P Holt and were set to make a run, C Miller didnt make it thru week 3 , he suffered the first of 2 Season ending Injurys , we turned to BJ Tolliver and Wade Wilson and we finished well below the .500 mark, the next yr the second injury to Millers Knee ended his career ....Then 95 rolled aroundGlanville had been Fired for being unable to reproduce the magic of the 91 season with the revolving door of Journeyman QBs and an Offense that did not at all match his Gritz Blitz Style that Atlanta Loved him for...The Run and Shoot Guru J Junes was now calling the shoots for our beloved Birds, He had found his man, A Run and Shoot QB God named Jeff George... the season was a roller coaster ride , lots of sizzle with sick Stat Burner of a 4000 yd passer, 1000 yd Runner and 3 count um 1 2 3 1000 yd Recievers , yea man sick sizzle , but very little boom... it took a Christmas day Gift with a win over Niners and a loss by 2 others to get us in Playoffs with a 9-7 Record, we were then Demolished bu B Favre, Reggie White and Company in GB, but there was hope...96 begins Ok we got something going here with the Cluck and Duck , we just need to find away to score in the red zone, I Know lets bring in a 12th rd draft choice TE, bring him in in the red zone, and we will call our Elite , Unstoppable Offense with God at QB ... THE RED GUNyea i know some of you guys remember .... THE RED GUN !!!! well about week 6 our TEs had like 4 total catches for 6 yds and God told the Guru to Suck his Member or something to that nature...we all know the story , 1 yr later J Jones is gone now doing his Guru thing in Paradise on Earth and I have no clue where God is ..man am i just now to D Reeves ? keep reading theres a point to my Rant lolDan the Man is here, a breath of fresh air, Old School Style, Stedy improvement in every aspect of the game of Football for Birds , 98 we were the Powerhouse of the NFC , yes i know Min broke some then records that NE Shattered 2 yrs ago , but we were big and nasty , not even close to the Soft Team we were just 3 yrs before, we were 14-2 and went to the Super Bowl99 didnt start well ... it started bad in Jan when the eve of the Super Bowl all the Talk was of the Arrest of our Pro Bowl Safety E Robison for solicitation of Prostitution just days after he was awarded an award for Moral Values Then JA32 Said show me the Money, well into preseason JA32 was saying Show me the Money.... We showed him the Money, He in return showed us a season ending injury in his Glorious Return to the Falcons.... the next yr , like Miller this promising young Birds Career was Over.... we Finished 5-11 in 99 took a few yrs to get over the heartbreak of E Robisons Super Performance and JA32s Swindle...2002 Thank God we have a new Owner, wow are people really talking about us, OMG Super Man wears #7 ... Holy Crap we are the First team ... EVER .... to win @ GB in the Playoffs ,,,, man ohhhhh man we are going to the show in 03 ... we were 9-6-1 in our Magical 02 Season20033rd preseason Game VS Ravens on our new Field Turf @ OUR HOUSE , OUR HOUSE Prime time it was never yours..i remember M Millen (think it was millen) talking about D Reeves never winning a Super Bowl, he said I Think he gets one with this team.... wasnt 10 min later Superman is down.... I Remember it like it was yesterday, Millen says.... This Changes Everythingand it did, Reeves Resigned before the end of the season after being told his services were no longer required, Say it aint so AB.... we finished 5-11 The word Curse is becoming more and more used in Falcons circles2004A Healthy D Reeves team + Rod Coleman Soars into NFC Championship Game, man oh man , what if D Reeves had been coaching that team, yea with Reeves Coaching , we dont go to Philly . Philly comes to Dome we were 11-5 2005 we start 6-2 finish 2-6 the Dark Cloud remains...........2008 Rookie QB , Rookie Coach, Unproven RB, Complete New System and Playersmaybe the most magical season in Franchise History , after what happened with Vick and Patrino , Maybe the best Season for any team any where .... EVER 11-5 outa nowhere with a punnishing Oline Ground Game and Rookie qb that looked like a 10 yr vet...And so it Begins2009M Ryan this is for you .... You have the chance to become Mr Falcon in only your second yr.... you have the chance to become the most Beloved Falcon of All Time in only your 2nd yr, These Fans will stand by your side and cheer for you till your final snap in this wonderful game... all you gotta do is get us 9 .....get us 9 wins Mr Ryan and your Place in Falcon History will be etched in stone....Get us 9 man, i dont know how many more let downs this Fan can Stand....And so it Begins
bossFALCON™
9 wins means very little to me if we don't get into the playoffs. it would be a nice accomplishment, but i want a chance to play in february at the end of the season. rounz
Thanks for this, Shredman. You remembered some things I had forgotten.Makes me realize how long we've struggled with a few bright spots.Indeed it should be our time to win it all--if not this year, then next year at least. But I'll settle for a winning season this year, too.Anything else will be gravy to me. Durrty
I see your point, but we are built to accomplish more than that...I don't think this post should be directed at Ryan...it should be pointed towards the defense. Ryan has showed the leadership and drive to get better day in and day out...our defense struggled in four preseason games and showed no signs of improvement. I believe they can do it, but they have to obtain the same intangibles that Ryan possesses.
Shredman
I hear ya, but forget 9 wins, this is a Super Bowl team.i am 100% sure we are a better football team than we were last yr....we were dealt a hard schedule and a very very young Defense... its gonna be up to Ryan to win these first 3 or 4 games, the D has to step up Tomorrow and the rest of the season,,,, and i agree anything less than 9 , would be a dagger in the heart man....... capologist
Shredman:I go back a bit further than you but I have to say, your post captures the emotions that I think all long-time Falcon fans feel about back to back winning seasons... FalconFanSince1970
I'll take 9 wins and no playoff anyday. I have been here for every back to back attempt and it is time. Trust me.There are Falcon fans on this board that are 20-30 years older than me. They are running out of time. They at least need to see the curse get broken. The playoffs would be icing on the cake. jm_falcons
That brings back a lot of memories. I just keep thinking about how awesome that 77 Falcons Defense was. Lowest avg points per game allowed going all the way back to the early 40s! Just imagine if we had that Defense today. We could all kick back and watch the destruction nearly every week! falcoatlantae
From the looks of it, this schedule is undeniably tough. Not only the divisions but also the bye week schedules.Remember the conventional wisdom at the beginnning of last season.
Peyton
The Steelers had the toughest schedule in the NFL last year, and they went 12-4. And people say they sucked on offense. So the point is, if you are a great team, you will put up a great record, regardless of the schedule, because there are only so many great teams in the league in any given year.
