RFA status is likely the point of contention

Recommended Posts

If White is a RFA next year, his value would be diminished because any team that signs him would have to pay up a 1st round pick. If no one signed him, he would have to play for the tender (probably under 3mill). I am sure the Falcons are willing to make him one of the highest paid WR in the league, but they justifiably think they are entitled to having him play this (and maybe next) year on the cheap. They will give White his long term security but expect in exchange White will acknowledge that he has a year remaining and then a RFA year next year.

Roddy has to decide between security(and sacraficing some money to have it) or playing out his contract to maximize his earnings. He is wanted here but he is not a FA. He won't be treated like one with a year left on his deal and RFA status next year. Blank is no cheapskate, Roddy and his agent are simply unwilling to accept that the threat of an uncapped year has diminished his earning power next season.
