Fresh faces: Georgia

The Bulldogs brought in a pair of highly rated quarterbacks, both of whom were on campus for spring practice, but the running back position is where a couple of new faces could emerge the quickest.

Carlton Thomas, RB: He was the star of the spring for the Bulldogs, who will be looking for answers at running back now that Knowshon Moreno is doing his thing in the NFL. Thomas, a 5-7, 178-pound redshirt freshman, might not be a guy who will carry it 20 or 25 times a game, but he's a magician at making people miss in the open field and can turn nothing into something in a hurry. Look for Thomas to be the Bulldogs' changeup back this season and play a key role on third down.

Washaun Ealey, RB: Every year, there's a true freshman fans can't wait to get a look at. This year, that guy at Georgia is the 5-11, 205-pound Ealey, who obliterated the Class A competition in high school while playing for Emanuel County Institute. He finished his career with 8,108 rushing yards and a state-record 133 touchdowns. And, yes, he's been compared to another Class A running back from the state who went on to become a legend for the Bulldogs. Georgia coach Mark Richt said Ealey will be thrown into the mix early and get a chance to show what he can do. On tape, Richt says Ealey is a "beast."

Tavarres King, WR: As talented as A.J. Green is, he's going to need some help this season. Remember, he had Mohamed Massaquoi on the other side last season. King enters preseason practice No. 1 at the split end position. He's a tad on the skinny side and still needs to prove that he's durable enough to weather the pounding in the SEC. But King has added 20 pounds since coming to Georgia last year (up to 182) and possesses the kind of speed that should make him a nice complement to Green. An ankle injury derailed King last season as a true freshman, forcing him to redshirt. But he knows the offense now and has a chance to be one of the more improved players on the team.
