Some notes from the Orange & Blue game from Jeremy Fowler

Recommended Posts

The Florida Gators' Orange and Blue Game on Saturday — the culmination of spring practices with a scrimmage in The Swamp — was the chance to showcase young talent. Plenty of players took advantage of that platform. Only six current projected starters actually saw the field, so most of these names aren't mainstream. At least not yet.

•JOHN BRANTLEY, QB: Tim Tebow's successor had a monster day, completing 14-of-23 passes for 265 yards and three touchdown passes. He also recorded two rushing touchdowns after playing for both teams (first string and second string).

•FRANKIE HAMMOND, WR: Brantley's top target led all receivers with 131 yards, including a stretched-out, 50-yard beauty. He's too talented not to see the field in 2009 as a redshirt freshman.

•JON BOSTIC, LB: Coach Urban Meyer said the true freshman will play right away, and here's why: four tackles and a pass deflection that led to an interception in limited action.

•DORIAN MUNROE, SS: Two tackles and an interception returned 30 yards is not a bad performance from a guy fresh off a torn knee ligament.

•T.J. LAWRENCE, WR: After six catches for 72 yards, the redshirt freshman could compete with Hammond for a top backup spot.

•BRENDAN BEAL, LB: Came out of nowhere with 13 tackles and an interception after missing part of the spring coming off a torn knee ligament.

•DLs EARL OKINE, DUKE LEMMENS AND WILL GREEN: Each recorded a sack. Lemmens had four total tackles and Okine added a pass breakup.
