If you dismissed Glenn Beck's argument for seceding from the Union as the isolated ravings of a lunatic, think again. In this video, Texas Governor Rick Perry wades into General Beck's loony bin and declares Texas' sovereignty from the U.S., saying that the time has come to "draw the line in the sand" against the federal government. "No longer are we going to accept their oppressive hand in the state of Texas."

Now we know why Sarah "Alaskan Independence Party" Palin endorsed Perry over KBH in the GOP gubernatorial primary.

I believe the federal government has become oppressive. It's become oppressive in its size, its intrusion in the lives of its citizens, and its interference with the affaris of our state.

Texans need to ask themselves a question. Do they side with those in Washington who are pursuing this unprecendented expansion of power, or do they believe in individual rights and responsibilities laid down in our foundational documents.

Where're you gonna' stand? With an ever-growing Washington bureaucracy, or are you going to stand with the people of this state who understand the importance of state's rights.

Texans need to stand up. They need to be heard, because the state of affairs that we find ourselves in cannot continue indefinitely...

...We think it's time to draw the line in the sand and tell Washington that no longer are we going to accept their oppressive hand in the state of Texas. That's what this press conference, that's what these Texans are standing up for. There is a point in time where you stand up and say enough is enough, and I think Americans, and Texans especially have reached that point.

You can hardly blame Texas in some regards, as a state they are one of the shinning stars right now in terms of job creation, state budget and education. They also have very strong state leadership already in office, leaving the US may be the wrong verbiage, but it's hard to argue that they really need anyone telling them how to run their state right now.

You know people joked about what would happen if a Black man was ever elected president but you never really imagined some of the hyperbole people said in just would actually come to fruition...smh

Ah so it's all about race and it has nothing to do with how tax money is being used.. interesting.. seems like there are a few racists in our crowd folks..

The timing is suspicious.

The location is suspicious..

The rational is suspicious.

The demographics of the populist outrage is suspicious.

But I guess I can ignore history, suspend my suspicions and give everyone the benefit of doubt until proven otherwise...But when I hear pre Civil War rhetoric from elected officlals for the first time in my adult life excuse me for seeing it as a bit of a red flag...

I just find it amusing that a nation that founded itself on the ideal of "the consent of the governed" being the sole authority for government suddenly ignoring the inalienable right to succession.
