With the offseason defensive acquisitions that the Saints have made, it is quite possible that they are now a top three team in the NFC. With the hiring of Gregg Williams this offseason as well, the Saints have shown they are committed to winning football games.

Now to the offense. Last year was an amazing year for quarterback Drew Brees. No one could imagine that he would be just yards short of passing Dan Marino in the single-season passing yards record. He spread the ball out so well that he passed for more than 5,000 yards, but not a single Saint had over 1,000 yards receiving.

 How would they be a top three team in the NFC? They were the 4th best in the NFC South last year.

Hiring Gregg Williams and suddenly becoming a top 3 team is not related. And it doesn't show they are committed to winning, it shows that Payton is on the hot seat, and was willing to give up some of his own money to sign a defensive coordinator in a chance to keep his job next year. All you can say about the Saints is they have a great passing game. No run game, no defense. Like Denver. Who also didn't make the playoffs.

The article should be titled: "No new information. Saints hired a failed DC a few months ago. Since he is not made out of magic, the Saints will continue to under perform."

There's a reason Williams was dismissed, and a reason why he didn't get any serious interest as a HC candidate. He's had success in the past, but I don't think he's the missing piece of the puzzle. Plus, although I like Sean Payton just fine, he's not shown himself to be outstanding either. Rivalry aside, I don't think the Saints have improved themselves all that much. JMO
