Poll Finds Obama Would Trounce Palin

(March 19) - President Barack Obama would cruise to re-election in 2012 if Sarah Palin is the Republican nominee, a new poll finds.

In the hypothetical contest, Obama would defeat the Alaska governor 55 percent to 35 percent, the poll by Public Policy Polling found.

Obama has the support of 89 percent of Democrats. Among Republicans, Palin has the support of 66 percent but 17 percent back Obama. Considering that Obama won just 9 percent of the Republican vote against John McCain, it appears that Palin would lose a lot more votes for the GOP, Public Policy Polling said.

Several national polls of GOP voters have suggested Palin, the Republican vice-presidential nominee in 2008, would be the party's No. 1 choice to head the ticket in 2012.

Dean Debnam, president of Public Policy Polling, cautioned that a lot could happen before the 2012 election.

"It's impossible to say what twists and turns the American political landscape will see between now and 2012," Denam said.

"What is clear is that four months ago John McCain lost to Barack Obama by seven points nationally, and at this point in time Sarah Palin trails Obama by a much greater 20 point margin. Obama would easily win more than 400 electoral votes in a contest against Palin at this point in time," he said.

The poll found Obama's overall national approval rating is 55 percent, with 37 percent of voters disapproving of his job performance. In comparison, 50 percent of Americans have an unfavorable opinion of Sarah Palin, with 41 percent holding a positive view of her.

The national survey of 691 voters was conducted March 13-15 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.7 percent.

Bush 41 and Bush 43 both had astronomically high approval ratings at one point in their Presidencies. It is still a LONG time until 2012 and a lot can happen.

well of course, the democrats would probably win every pre-poll there is. It's the ridiculous and inaccurate smearing that the republicans tend to pull for them to win. The GOP wins on slandering, that's why McCain got so far in 08, and that's why your next conservative presidential candidate will do the same. Pure scum I tell ya.

Neither party has a monopoly on pure scum. Both do it very well.

election matchup polls don't start becoming meaningful until just after the nominating conventions the year of the election.

if the economy doesn't improve then not only would sarah palin beat obama in 2012, but larry craig could run & win that year. we'll know by january 2012 whether obama will be reelected. this is way too early.

It wasn't stupid at all.

I can sense FEAR in conservatives for 2012 !!!!

Obama will take Palin, Jindel, or whoever out to the woodshed !! B)

I think it is pretty stupid and I voted for Obama. Polling about the next election two months after the last election against the VP candidate who was on the losing ticket? a lot can happen in 46 months. Ask Bush, Sr.

I didn't ask if you owned a business or not, I asked if you knew what socialism is, which I seriously doubt. It's easy to call Barack Obama a "socialist", or Bill Clinton a "nazi", or Barney Frank a "communist", but they're just insults. Most people that use name calling don't know what the heck they're talking about.

It reminds me of a story when I was campaigning for John Kerry. I called somebody, and he said "why are you votin for some Communist?", I said "sir, do you know what a communist is?. His reply..."somebody that dictates life and takes over our freedom!!!".

John Kerry/ liar

Bill Clinton/ liar

Owebama, is setting a record for a lying president

Frank/.... told the country in 05 there is no problem with Fannie and Freddie........liar

Why dont you just get behind Pelosi, and you can have a Lying full house!

Liberal, you think your smart, but your just another mindless follower. I think you probably watch MTV alot :)

The only FEAR anyone ought to have right now is the FEAR that our country is going to **** in a handbasket and our government is finding more ways every day to discard the Constitution and replace it with something different........and different in a BAD way.

Using the IRS to go after and punitively tax people who (whether we like it or not) received bonuses they were cntractually allowed to receive? Congress basically using the IRS to correct a mistake they made by going willy nilly and passing a huge spending bill without even reading it? Dear God this sounds like Stalin era USSR tactics.

Wake up America.......this is a WHOLE LOT BIGGER than Democrat or Republican.
