Mets at the plate: Daniel Murphy prolonged his success with a three-hit performance that included a double and two singles. He is now hitting .409 during the Grapefruit League season. Ryan Church opened the seventh inning with a long homer to right off Manny Acosta.

Braves at the plate: Josh Anderson's two-run, second-inning homer gave the Braves a lead they wouldn't relinquish. Jeff Francoeur, who has 11 hits in his past 17 at-bats, sparked the second inning with a leadoff single.

Mets on the mound: Jonathon Niese allowed two earned runs, registered three strikeouts and issued three walks in four innings. Casey Fossum allowed two earned runs, surrendered three hits and issued a walk while recording just two outs in the seventh inning.

Braves on the mound: Jair Jurrjens recorded six strikeouts and scattered four hits over six scoreless innings. Mike Gonzalez worked a perfect eighth inning. He hasn't allowed a run in his past four appearances.

Grapefruit League records: Mets 7-9; Braves 13-3

Up next: Tommy Hanson will face Livan Hernandez when the Braves and Mets meet again in Port St. Lucie, Fla., on Wednesday afternoon at 1:10 ET. Both hurlers are bidding to win one of the their team's final rotation spots. Hanson, who is regarded as one of the game's top overall prospects, has allowed just two earned runs in his past 11 2/3 innings.

I don't get why JJ isn't look at as a great pitcher yet. Many rank him as our #3 when he'll probably get the most wins this season with the best stats. You know, like last year.

People look at him as a very good pitcher but, he is still young and has to prove he can be consistant to be called great.

He is our number three because we have Lowe as our Ace to he is not going to take that spot. Depending on how Vazquez does early on I think he could be considered our number 2 in the future but, the 2 guys ahead of him now have more history and more wins in the bigs and that is why they are placed ahead of him. If Jurrjens stays as our number 3 then our team is in a really strong position as far as pitching goes. One day that kid may be an Ace.

as soon as he gets some more innings under his belt and shows the same consistency he did last year people will start to talk
