yesmann
He was cut from the Rams, has anyone signed him yet? I wouldn't mind throwing a few million his way if he still has it in him. He could be an upgrade at RT.

There is a reason why we haven't been major players in FA - we should get a nice amount of comp picks for losing Boley, Milloy, and Brooking. In my mind that is why it is taking so long for us to sign L.J. Smith -- TD is probably deciding if some added help in the passing game is worth losing one of those compensatory draft picks.

So it's really a possibility we get multiple 3rd round picks?
The Dirty Bird
so we can lose picks by signing FAs? That's news to me. So it's really a possibility we get multiple 3rd round picks? Not normal draft picks - I'm talking about compensatory draft picks. The league gives out compensatory draft picks if a team loses more qualifying FAs then it gains (a pick for every FA). Right now it looks like we will get 2 because of the Peterson signing, and only 1 extra if we sign L.J. Smith. I don't know what round it will be, but there is a good chance that it will be a 3rd round pick if Boley performs at his 07 level.

Additionally, playing time and contract size are factors on both sides of this equation as well, so if our big 5 (Foxy, Boley, Brook, Gravy, Milloy) all play well and max out their compensation packages for next season, and Romburg doesn't see much actual playing time, we could still net b/w 2 and 4 comp picks for 2010. Besides L.J., I just don't see who we could acquire via FA in the next few weeks. Maybe an OLineman, but I doubt it.
