Lions pull off deal for LB Julian Peterson

Recommended Posts

The Lions have traded DT Corey Redding and a 5th round pick for LB Julian Peterson of the Seahawks. Just heard this on the radio here. Everyone's excited and Seahawks fans are pissed. Great deal for the Lions :) It also means the chances of the Lions taking Aaron Curry just got slimmer.

I don't think they got slimmer, I think Detroit has the makings of a great LB corps.

Many people feel that Curry will be able to move to the MLB spot, and if Detroit is one of the teams thinking that way, it would give Detroit a LB corps of Ernie Sims, Aaron Curry, & Julian Peterson. Very, solid group right there that has the speed to flow to the ball and make plays all over the field.

Doesn't Schwartz drop his LB'ers in coverage and Peterson suck in coverage? Not sure about that but if it's true then hardly a great match

Yea i think. They also will have some packages where they run the 3-4 and Peterson is pretty good off the edge. They also have Jordan Dizon who should see more playing time this year since Marinelli made him change positions and ****ed him up.

That would be sick.

the lions sure do know what theyre doing. i traded for julian peterson in the IMD for the packers to start at OLB in my 3-4. hes not very good in coverage but as a SLB in a 4-3 he should be ok, especially in more of an attacking defense.

cory reddings stock sure did plummet. shaun rogers really made him the player he was when he was productive for a couple years. the lions arent moving to a 3-4 are they norwood?!

No they will run a 4-3 but they will run some plays in the 3-4. It fits with what players they have. Avril, Alama-Francis and now Peterson can play outside in the 3-4. They'll only be running this scheme mostly to create a pass rush. I think they are targeting Maybin, Sintim or English with the #24 pick or if not there, at #33.

i think you mean with the #20 pick. ;)

and what would you think of this draft for them:

1st- Stafford

20th- Oher

33rd- Michael Johnson

?

thats what i have going down in my mock. andre smith slid to #13 (redskins) so it pushed oher down a bit.

but thats cool about the 3-4 wrinkle theyll have. what are they going to do for defensive lineman? theyve got to be thin up front now that they just dealt redding. not to mention i dont know who they have at NT replacing shaun rogers still... and other than dwayne white i dont know how much talent they have at DE either...

however, i love this deal for them. i hope youve seen me talking up the lions for the past few months norwood, because everyones been bashing them saying that staffords career will be over if he goes there. but ive been saying that with 3 picks in the first 33 they have a chance to add 3 quality players to help turn this thing around. shrewd deals like this make me feel confident that they can get this team to 6 wins next season.

lol yea sorry i got Falcons on my mind.

I actually really like that mock for them. I just finished my 1st round mock and i have something very similar to that. I don't think Oher will be there though and i have Andre Smith falling... a lot! I was really expecting him to go hard at his pro-day especially with that interview where he talked about working hard. Seems like a lot of BS from a lazy kid to me.

Lions actually have a lot of young players on the DL. Since they are using the 3-4 just for generating pressure i wouldn't be surprised if they lined up White and Francis at DE with Avril and Peterson/Rookie on the outside. I think that is probably what they are going for. I still think they need another DE especially with the loss of Corey Smith(r.i.p.).

And i agree with you. So many haters just wanna laugh at Stafford being a bust and that the Lions will take Crabtree(seriously it was funny at first but **** move on) but they have a bright future and have some, dare i say, stars on defense. Sims is a great WLB, Cliff Avril looks like he could be a legit pass-rusher and Daniel Bullocks is the ball-hawking safety they need for the C2. They have a lot of picks in this draft and they can re-build their team. The first few years may be rough because of the inexperience but if they're GM knows his ****, they have a very bright future ahead of them.

I really like what the lions are doing. They are doing a great job rebuilding their team. Julian Petserson will be great in an attacking defense but really struggles in coverage. I am kind of confused on the what the Seahawks are thinking though with this pick. Do they really think Peterson is over the hill? They must if they are ok with him leaving for Redding and a 5th. I guess they will be drafting a rookie or let D.D. Lewis start.

Yes the Lions have quietly had a very solid offseason. Kudos to them.
