Surprise Teams

AL- Agreeing with the Royals

NL- Arizona, if they count as a suprise even though they won 82 games last season with all their youth I think they're ready to step up and really make some noise this season with a full season of experience under all those young players belt

I don't think the Diamondbacks would count as a suprise team. They were in the playoffs in 2007 and as you said won 82 games last season.

Then ill go out on a limb and stay with the NL West and say the Giants they dont have much of an offense but they have a good staff assembled and if Zito can put himself back together and if Randy Johnson can be solid to go along with their young pitchers I think they could suprise

I don't know if the Giants will score enough runs but they have the pitching to be really good.

I don't know about this year, but I really like the team that Pittsburgh is trying to put together. They're going to have a stacked OF when McCutchen (sp?) comes up. I also hear that they have some nice pitching prospects in the minors. I hope they eventually win. It's been a long time coming for that team.

Everytime the Pirates make a move it has me scratching my head. I don't know what think they even know what they're trying to do.

there hitting will keep them in a bunch of games.

Their offense has gotten a little better but they play in a tough stadium to score runs in. I'm expecting a huge drop off from Holliday. Not quite as bad as the dropoff Rowand had going from the Phillies to the Giants last year but similar. Who knows which Giambi they are going to get. Cust is alright but strikesout a ton. Mark Ellis is a pretty good hitter for a his position but is always hurt. Suzuki is decent a catcher. The big question mark for the offense is Eric Chavez. Will his back and shoulder hold up? If he's healthy can he produce like he did a few years ago?
