Shortlist of our favorite offseason targets

I guess it's time to make a "shortlist" of positions we have to fill and look for people to fill it (via Draft and FA)

Right now to me it looks like we need:

2 OLBs (Boley is gone, Wire isn't good enough to start, Brooking will stay but shouldn't start)

2 DEs (1 that's good against run and pass to light a fire under JA98 and a pure pass-rusher)

1 DT (a DT that can stop the run and get to the passer)

1 S (if we don't resign Milloy)

1 CB (depth is needed, if it's a starter, even better)

1 RT (starting RT needed ... nasty attitude wanted)

With that many holes I don't expect us to fix everything this offseason, but we should get the better part done

Let's make it a clean shortlist of the boards favorite targets, would be nice if we could find a scouting report for every prospect.

OLB:

-) Karlos Dansby - Arizona: http://life.atlantafalcons.com/index.php?showtopic=3827193

-) Leroy Hill - Seattle

-) Brandon Spikes - University of Florida: http://life.atlantafalcons.com/index.php?showtopic=3825560

-) Sean Weatherspoon - Missouri

-) Marcus Freeman - Ohio State

-) Brian Cushing - USC (don't like him, but I'll add him)

-) James Laurinaitis - Ohio State (I know he's a ILB, but he projects well as SLB or even WLB in the NFL)

-) Mark Herzlich - Boston College

-) many many more (post if you want somebody added)

DE:

-) Terrell Suggs - Baltimore Ravens

-) Bertrand Berry - Arizona Cardinals

-) Brian Orakpo - Texas

-) Greg Hardy - Ole Miss

-) Tyson Jackson - LSU

-) Larry English - Northern Illinois

-) Everette Brown - FSU

-) post if you want somebody added

DT:

-) Albert Haynesworth - Titans

-) BJ Raji - Boston College

-) Peria Jerry - Ole Miss

-) Evander Hood - Missouri

-) post if you want somebody added

S:

-) Sean Jones - Cleveland Browns

-) Taylor Mays - USC (don't like him, but I'll add him since I think he'll drop on draft day)

-) William Moore - Missouri

-) Patrick Chung - Oregon

-) Michael Hamlin - Clemson

-) Curtis Taylor - LSU

-) many many more

CB:

-) Vontae Davis - Illinois

-) Domonique Johnson - Jackson State (if I recall right)

-) Victor Harris - VA Tech

-) Mike Mickens - Cincinnati

-) Darius Butler - Connecticut

-) Alphonso Smith - Wake Forrest

-) ...

RT:

-) Stacey Andrews - Cincinnati Bengals

-) Vernon Carey - Miami Dolphins

-) Ciron Black - LSU

Posted some names that came to my mind, but I'm a little jetlaggy (too many timechanges lately), so don't be mad if I missed someone ... just post a name and we can add him to the list.

Discussions are welcome ;)

You mention in your OLB statements "-) James Laurinaitis - USC (I know he's a ILB at USC, but he projects well as SLB in the NFL)"

Minor point is that Laurinitis plays at Ohio State...Maualuga plays ILB for USC.

You also 2 DEs; one run stopper....I think JA98 is very good run stopping DE...a little over paid...but good that never-the-less. I would argue that we only need to acquire 1 more DE....one that can help Abraham rush the passer....Biermann is pretty good as a back-up but not starting playing every down.

Otherwise I agree with your post.

Pretty much on target. We just had too many holes to being playing in the playoffs this year especially the defense.

JL is a Lb at OSU NOT USC

Sorry ... don't know where my mind was there. Guess me and my gf should really decide where we want to live ... all the flying around is killing me.

Still a long road ahead of us, let's hope we get some holes filled this season, I'd like a .500 or better season for some years in a row now (with some playoff runs) .

James Laurinaitis - Ohio State (I know he's a ILB, but he projects well as SLB in the NFL)
Little Animal would be a better WLB. SLB in this scheme requires playing the run well and shedding blocks(something he OK at). IMO, WLB is perfect for this kid. He would start day 1 and he is excellent in coverage.

True ... I think he could play every LB spot in our scheme. I'd take either combo: Spikes - Lofton - Dansby (as WLB) or Hill - Lofton - Laurinaitis (as WLB)

The one with Spikes and Dansby would be better, because Spikes is a great playmaker and we saw what Dansby can do.
