James Malec arraigned for murder

NAMPA - A tragic end to a family Christmas get together in Nampa.

One man was shot to death and another faces a murder charge.

It happened around 10:45 p.m. Thursday on 4600 block of South Happy Valley Road near Lewis Lane.

Canyon County Sheriff's deputies responded to a report of a domestic disturbance.

They arrested 48-year-old James Robert Malec and booked him on a charge of second-degree murder.

Medical personnel were unable to save the shooting victim.

A spokesman with the Canyon County Sheriff's Office says several adults and children were in this house for a Christmas dinner.

“We had multiple people that were at the house that we talked to this evening and on all accounts a disturbance that escalated to an unfortunate end," said Lt. Marv Dashiell.

The Canyon County coroner has identified the victim as Justin Mark Eilers, 30, of Boise. He died from a single gunshot wound to the chest.

Eiler's is the son of a woman who is believed to live with Malec.

He is a Nampa High School graduate and mixed martial arts fighter.

Mike Heath is Malec's neighbor and was shocked by news of the fatal shooting.

"Nice neighbors, the best neighbors you could ever ask for, so it's just a total shock, tragedy I mean, nice people, very nice people," said Heath.

Malec was arraigned in Canyon County court Friday and is being held on a $1 million bond.

Investigators who responded to the crime scene were on-call and went home once the evidence was processed at the scene.

They’ll be returning to work Monday and Capt. Dana Maxfield says that's when more details about this case will likely be released.

That really sucks, not sure if he has any kids or not. Not really sure what this was over though. The other guy would have gotten his $**t handed to him had he fought Justin. He was a big boy and a decent fighter.

RIP Justin Eilers 12-25-2008

Which, sadly is probably why he got shot. Nowadays people are afraid to get into it and take an ### whooping. So they would rather shoot the guy.

Bruce lee said that is why it was so hard to set a martial arts film in modern times. No way could you get that bad ### and not be shot.

H didn't use those exact words, but it's true.
