We should all be thankful for Koenen

He has become vastly overrated ever since they showed that stat on Sunday. He's a fine punter, but there are a handful of better ones out there.

Prove it. There isn't a better punter in the NFL, I've known this stat for a LONG time and I've been saying it for 2 seasons now that Koenen is a monster. Give it up if you think otherwise.

Listen, I really like Koenen, but people are acting like he's an outrageous Pro Bowl snub. He has been solid in most of the difficult punting situations, but fortunately he hasn't been pinned in a lot of those this year. The return yards stat is nice, but he doesn't kick it very far (32 punters average more yards per punt) which means his coverage is always right there. I got no problems with Koenen, you just got to keep it in perspective.

I'm not talking about Pro Bowl. I'm talking about just being overlooked in general. Nobody talks about him when they talk about the good punters. Yes he doesn't average a lot of yards but I feel that is because he is more concentrated on getting high kicks and limitting the return yards which I feel is more important than overall distance. Also as I have done said he is one of the best at pinning the opponent deep.

You see 32 average more yards per punt, but not NET yards per punt. That's the only stat that truly matters as a punter, if you kick the ball 75 yards your coverage unit is going to be spread out so thin they'll give up a massive return, many times ending in a touchdown. See Reggie Bust's returns this year, they've all been over kicked, just like Harry Douglas' his TD was a punt that the punter didn't have control over, and forced him back, but that allowed him to set them up.

Plus Koenen is averaging allowing only .79 yards per return...that's right...less than 1 yard in returns for every time he punts the ball. No one else in the league is close to that. We all know Koenen is capable of some big time power kicks as well, but he's got control, pinning people inside the 20 23 times on the season
