John Abraham should not be a starter

Recommended Posts

People here think in such simple terms. Oh, Abe has 15.5 sacks. That's great and all, but the other DE's have better ALL-AROUND stats.

Peppers, for example, has more tackles, more passes defended, more tackles for a loss, more safeties, and more forced fumbles.

You want a guy voted to the Pro Bowl because he leads in ONE statistical category? Get real.

dude carolina panthers fans says abraham should have gottten in over peppers. there is one that posted it here on our board, and who said he shoulda been a starter? he should have atleast get in. and by the way abraham beats double teams on a regular basis, is An ELITE pass rushing defensive end in this league. I want you to personally tell John Abraham he isnt a pro bowler until you do that your opionons are wrong and mean nothing, thats probally why im the only one to respond to this non sense.

15.5 sacks when your only used in known pass situations is outstanding.

I want him voted in because the other guys play significantly more than Abraham, which means Abe is a better DE. The three that got voted in also have other people on their d-lines who help them out. The 3 Des that got voted to the pro bowl are on good defenses. plus, abe had 3 more sacks than peppers...

Hmm, and since when does Peppers have two safeties?

ppl keep in mind this guy is the same guy that said we didnt have bragging rights over the bucs because they used a back up qb, because his friend told him he didnt have braggin rights <_< dude do u realize that we started a rookie qb in the tampa bay game, and they started a vet , of course we have bragging rights. and the bucs fans brag about wins against us last year, did we even have a starting qb last year?

He is a game-changing player and he has been nothing but CLUTCH this year. It's you who needs to get real. Many people in the media (obviously not the ones who voted) and even some fans from opposing teams feel the same way. It's you who needs to get real.

I won't say he isn't a pro bowler because he has the stats to prove it. But so do the other guys who got in. All of them deserved it.

Well, he isn't gonna get the votes if he is sitting the bench for most of the game. That leaves him fresh for the passing downs.

We all know that if he plays the whole game he will be on IR with another groin injury.

Ever heard of smart coaching?

Doesnt matter if he's sitting in the booth next to Mularkey sipping on Hen & Coke. He produced 15.5 sacks in less than 16 games. CRITICAL sacks at that, and not just the garbage time sacks.

I question anyone who calls themself a fan of the Falcons and does not think Abe got slighted.

sacks are generally considered the most important stat for a defensive end. and abraham has been on the sidelines way more than these other guys. He has been a predominant third down player and usually in a passing formation by the offense. He doesn't even play that much on run plays so it's not really expected for him to have more tackles..

He probably leads in non-called holding penalties.

But see thats exactly why they went over Abe in my opinion. People see the other guys as every down DE's that can do more. Where as abe is a pass rush specialist that gets taken out during run plays alot.

I completely agree.

In addition, I'll post what I said earlier:

Jared Allen is FAR superior than Abe.

The stats show it.

Abe: 15.5 sacks, 33 Tackles, 3 FF

Jared Allen 14.5 sacks, 48 tackles, 3 FF, 2 safeties

So the 1 sack Abe has over Allen, is greater than 15 tackles, and 2 safeties?

Most of you have probably never played organized football in your lives, so I'll forgive your ignorance.

But you have to understand the the purpose of the DE spot is NOT to sack the QB. Their main job is to keep outside contain, which means that no one should get to their outside. A defensive end has to contain the play inside. Which, most means make sure the running back doesn't break containment on their end of the field.

Which is why, when people look for the best DE, they look for tackles. With Abe having very few this year, that is why he isn't in the pro-bowl.

Abe being in the game only 50% of the time only hurts his argument for being a pro-bowl DE. He gets his sacks because he's fresh against a tired O-line. Unless he can pound it out whistle to whistle throughout the entire game like Tuck, Peppers, or Jared Allen, he will NEVER be a pro-bowler.

put abraham on the panthers D and peppers on falcons D, how do you think the stats would compare then? Peppers plays on a far better defense, we have a lot of rookies and a brand new scheme that everyone is still learning. Peppers plays on a far superior Defensive line and I seriously doubt he gets doubled as much as Abe does. Peppers has a superior secondary playing behind him also. Abraham means way more to this defense than Peppers does to Carolina. Granted Peppers is a playmaker and **** of a defensive end, but he has a lot more help from his supporting cast and if Abe was in that situation his stats would be even better. Stats can be misleading anyways, we all know what abraham means to this defense whether he's getting sacks or not.
