Who else was holding their breath yesterday?

Recommended Posts

From the blocked punt on, my breathing slowed and stopped at times. I was pretty fed up with us not being able to score, even though we could drive pretty well. The scenario of the years before where our team was in that situation, played in my head for a few minutes. I'm not saying I lost my faith or anything like that, but our boys made me nauseated for a while yesterday. I hate the Bucs and for them to win that game yesterday would have hurt for me, our players, this city, and other loyal fans.

We aren't the Falcons of old though. It really is a new era here, we overcame some big stuff yesterday. Even times we were winning this year, we overcame some big third and longs and stuff of that nature. All with a team with more new faces than anyone in the league. These guys smelled it yesterday, and they came through for the city. Bucs are a hard team for us to beat, they did great on defense and special teams yesterday. I don't care what you say, our defense did a great job. Only giving up points off turnovers is a silver lining.

Tough game fought yesterday. Every game from here on out will be tough, knowing they have playoff chances. It is real, it is here, and it shall stay. It's a new Falcon's Era, and they aren't the Falcons of old.

It's a great time to be a Falcon Fan. :D:D

OK right now right here I will share my shame with my fellow brethren.

At that point I had flashes of the old bad days explode in my mind, and I thought all was lost. I keep trying to remind myself that this is the NEW Atlanta Falcons, but I have 28 seasons to exorcise from my soul still. I am trying hard, but I still have some work to do.

You just aren't supposed to win games when you have 3 turnovers, a blocked punt, AND lose the coin toss in overtime.

Are you? B)

BTW - I want to thank my wife and son for slapping me back to reality yesterday. My wife said, " if you say ONE MORE negative thing, I am gonna slap you."

She meant it too.

It is a conditional response like pavlov's dog. We expect failiure because it happens so often. It doesn't matter that so much has changed we are programmed at this point. It is much easier to believe we will win when we are not actually playing. I was 100 percent sure they would take Tampa until I started watching the game.

One of the reasons I am excited is because I think this is all about to change. I want it to change so badly I don't care what it takes. I want to be conditioned like fans of other teams that even when they are behind they naturally feel like their team will find a way to win.

My emotions yesterday were close to those I had during the NFC Championship Game in '98. I thought I would need CPR at any moment. Now we get to do it all over again this week against the Vikings. :o

That's exactly what I kept thinking. The irony is that we go to Minnesota this week, huh? It's like going back in time.

Can't tell you how many times I had to pause the DVR and hit the porch for a smoke...

Relieved that Bryant missed the game tying field goal...

Offense gets the ball, can't move it.

OK, our D will hold'em

Oh **** the punt is blocked

****, been here before, I know the script and it calls for TB scoring the winning TD

Miscues, push TB back

****, field goal

Yeah, time left, Matty Ice will get them close for the FG!

We choose to run out the clock in regulation, WTF!

We loose the OT coin toss, ****!

D, holds

O get the ball

FUMBLE!

Turner drives

HOLDING ON BLAYLOCK - WTF

Turner drives (send in ELAM NOW! dangit)

Elam trots on

Timeout TB

Falcons WIN!

The ol' ticker can't take too many of those.

Yep, that sounded like me. I had to down two 22 oz American Ales between the blocked punt and the GW FG!

I know EXACTLY what you are talking about!!!!!

When they blocked the punt I knew we were going to lose.... but we didn't.

The 3rd and 4th quarter was pure agony but it made the end that much sweeter.

What I couldn't help thinking about was our 2005 game in Tampa Bay. It was late season and we needed it to have a shot at the playoffs. We recovered a fumble in overtime and it looked for all the world like we were going to win. But then Todd Peterson had like a 27-yard field goal blocked and Bucs scored just before the end of OT to win. Few regular season losses have hurt more than that one. Thank GOD we didn't have to go through that. Wheeeew!!!

I would kill myself if I had to watch a recorded game, I have to know what's happening RIGHT NOW!

Yea I was so ready to call it a day when the punt occurred, then we held them, then we got the ball and Smith decides to go for OT.

At this point, I just knew from past experience we lose the coin flip, get driven on and lose the stupid game. Bad for me for no faith but with so many memories and past experience, I got myself ready for failure. Thank God I am not living it today!

BTW - what is it with people leaving when we got to the point of winning the game? Falcon fans left which just made me sick!!!!!!!!

I'll admit I thought the same "Here we go again" thoughts that most thought. However I went back to the Chicago game this year as I thought for sure that one was a loss too. As a matter of fact I almost changed the channel that day but something told me not to. Again yesterday I thought, oh no we lost (especially after the coin flip) but I had to hold on to we've done it before we can do it again. Once we stopped them in OT thanks to JA55's sack I knew we had it in the bag somehow. Turner lit them up and hit em in the mouth moving us down into scoring position. Oh yea, when Ryan fumbled I dang near threw the remote at the TV, how many times did the ball get stripped from behind yesterday. Thank God for a win and a winning season now!!!

i was standing in the other room watching because i couldn't stand to sit down anymore. you can see from my dining room all the way to my tv on the wall in the living room, so i was just standing in one spot watching from the blocked punt til the FG in OT. sitting down was not working for me anymore.
