Defense:

Defensive Tackle

Rod Coleman - The Atlanta Falcons decided to go with younger players in his place. He's had his share of injuries, but Coleman should have one more productive year left in him.

Marcus Tubbs - The former first-round pick of the Seattle Seahawks needs to prove he's over his injury problems.

Anthony McFarland - He's coming back from patella tendon surgery but the feeling is he'll be able to contribute to a team in a reserve role.

Ed Johnson - The former starter for the Indianapolis Colts was released by the team recently due to an off the field issue.

Jimmy Kennedy - The Jacksonville Jaguars recently released the former first-round pick of the St. Louis Rams.

Michael Myers

Matthias Askew - A former fourth-round pick of the Bengals.

Ethan Kelley - Despite coming back from microfracture knee surgery, he's had at least three free agent visits so far this year.

Antonio Garay - He fits in as a fourth defensive tackle.

Ross Koloziej - He fits in as a fourth or fifth defensive tackle.

Russell Davis - He fits in as a fourth or fifth defensive tackle.

Defensive End

Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila - When a team like the Green Bay Packers that has next to no depth at defensive end decides to release him, you have to wonder how much Gbaja-Biamila has left in the tank.

Rosevelt Colvin (OLB in 3-4) - You have to wonder how much he has left in the tank after a team that's hurting for sacks like the Houston Texans cut him. He did work out for the Cleveland Browns recently.

N.D. Kalu - The veteran end was released by the Houston Texans recently.

Bryce Fisher - At this point in his career, he fits in as a fourth end.

Darrion Scott - Legal issues could prevent him from finding a place to play this season since he's suspended for three games.

Rodney Bailey (DE in 3-4/DT in 4-3)

Melvin Oliver - He was recently released by the San Francisco 49ers but he's a decent fit for a team that uses a 3-4.

Inside Linebacker

Derek Smith - The veteran linebacker was recently released by the San Diego Chargers.

Brandon Moore (WLB) - He's a solid backup that can play at a variety of positions.

Victor Hobson (SLB) - He'll offer a team solid depth.

Derrick Pope (SLB/WLB) - It was a bit surprising that this versatile linebacker was released by the Minnesota Vikings.

Odell Thurman - The Cincinnati Bengals decided they would move on without him and he's been suspended by the NFL for a year.

Lemar Marshall (WLB) - He would be a solid backup linebacker who can play inside or on the weak-side.

Brian Simmons (WLB) - He refused a pay cut and was released recently by the New Orleans Saints.

Robert McCune - The Baltimore Ravens recently released him.

Outside Linebacker

Gary Baxter - He's still trying to come back from a serious knee injury.

Fred Thomas - Older cornerback who could play in a dime role.

Roc Alexander - Versatile defender who fits best in a dime defense.

Dexter Wynn (KR/PR) - He fits in as a dime back.

Chidi Iwuoma - He's primarily a special teams player but a good one in that role.

offense:

Quarterback

Jared Lorenzen - He has some upside as a No. 3 quarterback.

Tim Rattay - He's likely going to be a No. 3 quarterback for any team that wants to sign him.

Matt Baker - He's likely going to be a No. 3 quarterback for any team that wants to sign him.

Running Back

Shaun Alexander - The Washington Redskins released him earlier this week. He still could find a job if another starting back or backup goes down to injury.

Najeh Davenport - The Pittsburgh Steelers released him again recently.

Ron Dayne - Despite performing reasonably well for the Houston Texans the past two seasons, Dayne remains unemployed.

Samkon Gado - The St. Louis Rams released him recently.

Kenny Irons - The former second-round pick of the Cincinnati Bengals is still coming back from ACL surgery.

Vernand Morency - He offers a team a third down role.

LaBrandon Toefield - The power back could handle a third running back role.

Marcel Shipp - Solid special teams player and fits in as a third back.

Musa Smith - He fits in as a #3 back.

Alex Haynes - The Denver Broncos released him recently.

Verron Haynes - The former Pittsburgh Steeler could handle a No. 3 running back role.

Wali Lundy - He actually started eight games for the Houston Texans during the 2006 season.

Eric Shelton - The former second-round pick of the Carolina Panthers may have run out of chances after being waived by the Washington Redskins recently.

Fullback

Thomas Tapeh - The Minnesota Vikings recently released him.

Jeremi Johnson - The Cincinnati Bengals released him off of IR recently.

Troy Fleming - He has plenty of starting experience.

Reagan Maui'a - The Cincinnati Bengals waived him recently. He did start nine games for the Miami Dolphins in 2007.

Justin Green - The athletic fullback started seven games for the Baltimore Ravens from 2005-2007.

David Kirtman - The San Francisco 49ers waived him recently.

David Givens - His career is in doubt after suffering a serious knee injury almost two years ago.

Cedrick Wilson - His one-game suspension has been lifted by the league.

Doug Gabriel - He was recently released by the Cincinnati Bengals.

Tim Carter - He can run well in a straight line but catching the ball has been a problem.

Martin Nance - He's a tall receiver but lacks good enough speed to play on game days.

Taylor Jacobs - The former second-round pick of the Washington Redskins has bounced around in recent years.

Keenan McCardell - He said recently that he still wants to play.

Aaron Moorehead - He offers a team value as a No. 4 receiver.

David Kircus - He had a good workout for the Tennessee Titans recently.

Jeb Putzier - The Seattle Seahawks released him for the second time in two weeks recently.

Ryan Krause - He fits in as a third tight end.

Adam Bergen - The former Lehigh University tight end had a good pre-season for the Baltimore Ravens.

Courtney Anderson - The Oakland Raiders once saw him as their tight end of the future. Since then, he's been with four other teams.

Aaron Walker - The Baltimore Ravens recently released the journeyman tight end.

Teyo Johnson - Journeyman, No. 3 tight end who has been in and out of the league for a while.
