We need Carolina to win

Recommended Posts

If Carolina Wins and Atlanta beats New Orleans this is what happens.

1 -- Overal Record: TB (9-4); CAR (10-3); ATL (9-4)

2 -- Divisional records for TB, CAR, and ATL become 3-2

3 -- Conference Records become: TB (8-3); CAR 7-3); and ATL (6-3)

4 -- Remaining Divisional / Conference Games: ATL (1 / 3 (TB, MIN, STL)), TB (1 / 1 (ATL, SD, OAK)), CAR (1 / 2 (DEN, NYG, NO))

5 -- Remaing Strength of Schedule of opponents (current win %): ATL (.556), TB (.528), CAR (.667)

This is why we need Carolina to win, if for anything else, because TB is leading our division and it's always good to knock the leader off.

no. if tampa wins then we control our own destiny for the division championship AND a first round bye.

That's right, first round BYE in the playoffs.

If carolina wins then we can win out and still have to depend on some other team to help us out. Carolina can beat denver and new orleans and if the giants win their next two games they will have homefield advantage locked up before the carolina game and can rest starters.

I Did alot of thinking to find out who we need to win

We Want TB to Win Because if Carolina Wins we no longer control our density for division lead since we don't play them again. OK Lets Assume TB Wins and We beat the saints. TB is 10-3 while we are 9-4 and Carolina is 9-4. We hold tiebreaker with Carolina move to 5th seed in playoffs. So lets assume we play TB and Beat them by more 15 (Tie breaking Reasons) We are 10-4 and they are 10-4. OK so now lets assume both teams win the rest of their games after week 15. Both teams are 12-4,both have 4-2 Division record, 10-2 common game record, both have a 9-3 conference record,Which would take us to strength of victory for tiebreaker and if we beat them by 15 or more and win out we will win the NFC South.

So to summerize we need TB to win, Kick TB's butt and win out to win the NFC South .

I see what you are saying, I guess, if we win out, then it really dosn't matter, does it?

To win the Division without speculating who might win or lose what game remaining - this is going by if everyone actually won the rest of their games - unlikely but you never know

Scenario:

We win out finish 12-4 (4-2 In Division)

Tampa win out losing only to us 12-4 (4-2 in Division)

Carolina win out losing to Tampa finish 12-4 (3-3 in Division) - Carolina Eliminated

The it would come down to tie-breaks for the Division between Tamp & Atlanta

Final Record (12-4) - Push

Division Record (4-2) - Push

Common Foe (10-2) - Push

Conference Record (TB 10-2 > 9-3 Atl) - Tampa wins Division

Scenario:

We win out finish 12-4 (4-2 In Division)

Tampa goes 2-2 in final 4 finish 11-5 (3-3 in Division)

Carolina win out finish 13-3 (4-2 in Division) - Carolina wins division

Everyone assumes that Carolina will lose to the Giants and possibly Denver but by that time both teams could have their division locked up (Giants even possibly home field advantage) so who is to say that they don't bench their players or play them in a limited road to have them fresh for the play-offs - this has been a trend for a while now in the leauge - so it is very possible that the Panthers could win-out the rest of their season. So if it came down to a wildcard between us and Tampa and say Tampa beats us next week - Tampa would hold the tie-break over us for the Wildcard. Where as if Tampa beats Carolina and it comes down to us and Carolina we own the tie-breaks over them.

Then again 3 teams with any combination of those above records is most likely have all three in the play-offs

I disagree. We don't play CAR again. If they keep that one game lead and win out the division is gone. If TB wins we control our destiny, not the NFL schedule makers. We must keep the NFC South Worst To First Streak Alive!

But you're missing a key point, Carolina has to play the Giants at the Giants. Now what are the odds of them beating the Giants in NY the way the Giants are playing now.

Giants could have homefield advantage wrapped up by then and might just sit the starters for the rest of the season to avoid injuries as well - so don't pencil in a Giant win just yet either

didnt the Giants go to the Superbowl last year? did they rest anyone after they had the playoffs locked up? No.

No because they didn't lock up the play-offs until the last game of the season - they entered as a wildcard and played every game on the road in the play-offs to get to the Super Bowl - most of the other division leaders however rested their players.

JMO, but I don't think there is any way Carolina can beat the Giants, but yes, we will have to depend on that if Carolina wins.

But, the tie breaker works better for us in a Carolina win scenario as long as they do lose to the Giants, so I'll pull for Carolina to help knock Tampa out of the playoffs with.
