Whats the most noticable price change at the grocery store?

Recommended Posts

Staples especially. Not the things that hold paper together. Milk, eggs, bread, cheese, meat, that kind of stuff.

Much more of that shrinky-dink stuff going on, too. Pkgs. that look the same size but have less product in them.

My son loves those Totinos pizzas, and so did I when I was a kid. Now I can barely finish off the last piece if he doesn't eat a whole one. Yuk.

If you buy Publix brands on staples it's cheaper than you are going to get ANYWHERE. A dozen eggs for less than 2 dollars i believe. Milk for 3.50 (a gallon) bread is cheap. Cut meat however is expensive at our store (keep in mind we have the highest quality meat of any major grocery store)

Last week I bought a steak, one of those nice 'steakhouse' thick ones, from Publix. My wife and I usually split one, it's plenty for two.

Anyways....it was a ribeye, and it cost $9.70. Before I grabbed that one, however, I saw a pretty New York strip and picked it up to check it out. It weighed about the same as the ribeye, but I recoiled in horror when I saw '$17.71' on the wrapper. Sticker Shock from a chunk of cattle flesh. :o:lol:

Yeah, our meat is pretty expensive but the quality is 2nd to none. Only 7 out of 40 USDA grade meats make our shelves. We are also the only major grocery store with meat cutters in the store as well.
