Georgia Tech-Georgia: Bulldogs' Streak Is Over!

by Brian Tucker (Contributor)

November 29, 2008

Georgia Tech came from behind to upset Georgia today and did it exactly the way that Georgia likely knew they would. Tech ran the triple option down the throat of the Bulldogs, with 409 rushing yards and used the power of Roddy Jones (214 yards rushing) and Jonathan Dwyer (144 yards rushing) in a classic come from behind victory.

Georgia led 28- 12 at halftime, but it was the Yellow Jackets that came out in the third quarter and STUNG Georgia with 26 points of offense. Georgia Tech is undefeated this season when leading after the third quarter and Georgia’s often penalized defense just couldn’t find a way to stop the power of the Ramblin’ Wreck.

Paul Johnson’s first year as head coach at Georgia Tech will most likely land him with ACC Coach of the Year honors, while the Yellow Jackets prove to be the best team in the coastal side of the ACC and won’t even play for the ACC title. For Georgia Tech, they’ll end the regular season with a 9-3 mark with a new head coach and a new offense, and that’s more impressive than most will realize or admit.

Georgia was the preseason No. 1 and will probably be ranked lower than Georgia Tech in the final college football rankings at the year's end.

I already know that all the Georgia fans will come up with reasons for why Georgia lost. The answer is really a simple one...Georgia Tech was the better team today and they outplayed Georgia when it counted. That’s the real answer, but Georgia fans will be quick to point out that Tech has finally won and did it on the road in Athens, and that Georgia had won the last seven meetings.

Mark Richt (losing Georgia head coach) will play nice when asked about the game and Georgia will go on to play in the Toilet Bowl, but the truth is right here in front of us. Paul Johnson, in his first year at Georgia Tech, and with the offense being in the first year of the triple option, our expectation was to win maybe five or six games.

When the media asked Paul Johnson and the Georgia Tech football team what they wanted to accomplish in his first year, they all answered that question with the same answer. They didn’t say win the ACC or finish with a winning record, they said BEAT GEORGIA.

To HE*L with Georgia!
