Ice74
right now in both conferences, and 7-4 team would have to sit , to make way for a 6-5 team, just because of their divison should the NFL do something about thisI will take this a step further, if we beat Minnesota, and finish at 10-6, the NFC Central will have the division champ(whoever it is) be at 9-7,we would have a better record , and we would have beaten all 3 teams still in the runnin, Chicago, GB and Minnesotais the NFL putting the best teams in the playoffs or just putting in teams based on the division you play in, and that divison sucks this yearI say it again, both conferences will likely have teams with better records, NOT make the playoffs

iDash
Yes down with Divisons in the NFL, Playing the Same team twice a year is a reason 6,000 stay at home yesterday,Play 16 different teams top 8 team into Playofffs, 8 from each conferenceYea its pisses me off!Packers and Arizona could get into the Playoffs with a Losing record! DurtyBirds02
obv is the best team in each division and then the next 2 in the conference. What can ya do tho?I think the system is fine. You know dam well that just because a team gets in at 8-8 doesnt mean they are necca bad team. Injuries, just not playing at full potential etc. I duno thats just me. I think if you win you divison, no matter who is in it, you desever a right at the playoffs.

helmsman
I can put up with the system we have in place, god forbid it be anything like the college playoff system...BUT one thing I would suppoert changing is overtime play. I would like to see both teams get atleast one possession. OT is decided too often by the team that gets the coin toss,, but you could argue that the defense should be able to stop them... Anyway, I could support that change but little else. Its important to keep the fundamentals of the game as close to the old days as possible. sporkdevil
It's meant to make sure poor divisions still get a showing. It's good for ratings. Not totally fair, but it's better than basing it all on rankings.
Ice74
and the NFC will probably have 2 teams not make the playoffs , with better recordsI know it is what it is, but should the NFL think about changing this, the whole idea of a playoff is to reward the BEST teams, not reward teams because of certain groups, NFL=socialism
Ghost Rider
No, the NFL should not change it. They actually have it right. If you win your division, whether it's weak or not, you make the palyoffs. Nothing should be changed.

FalconsBaby2
this can happen to any division.....look at baseball, i remember a few years ago (i think 2005) the padres were barely over .500 and won the division and the wildcard team was 7 games better than them and there were 3 or 4 more teams with a better record. This will never change, its just how it is, lucky for some, devastating for others.

No divisions? Whatever. This arguement reminds me of college coaches liking the BCS until it leaves them out in the cold. It's fine until it directly affects their team. NFL has been doing it this way for years and it works. It's fine.
pzummo
If you win your division, it's a non-factor. If you get rid of the division championships, you get rid of the rivalry. What you are basically saying is, do away with the SEC, the PAC-10, etc. I for one am in favor of the divisions. It makes each divisional game that much more important. It adds a little bit extra significance to 6 games a year. And when your team is bad, you get to play spoilers for the other division foe's. If you do it based solely on record, teams with the easier schedules are at an advantage, and it's still another thing to whine about. I like having division championships, conference championships, and the Superbowl. Only one team wins the Superbowl each year, and as much as I want one for Atlanta, I still find a lot of gratification and satisfaction in winning the Division and/or the Conference. That was before the wildcard was in affect of course. It is what it is and I like it and always have.

octoslash
I dont' see how anyone can be against the proposal that the BEST 6 teams go and the rest go play golf. Screw divisions. Dump the stupid divisions and wildcard format, pick the BEST 6 records from each conference and match up 1/6, 2/5, and 3/4, or whatever.. Tampa , and New Orleans Twice a Year the Better!I would much rather replace those Three games to play Vs AFC Teams,For Example,I personally would like to Play Local Rivals Pitt.(Every year)- Replaced Jack, Dolphins(Every Year), and Tenn. But , the Whole thing would be based on Teams like the Detriot Lions,Like, Next Year Schedule ,Should Set the Lions vs Bottom 8 AFC/NFC and the Schedule fills in from there all the way to the Top!Like the Ny Gaints would Only play the Top 16 In the NFL! No Lions!
keller24VT
I think the current system should be replaced with a BCS-like system so we all know that the best teams will get in. :P
Farmer (The 2nd)
The NFL has by far the best set-up compared to other sports. The regular season is exciting and the playoffs have just the right # of teams. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Yeah, a better team may get left out from time to time. We may get left out this year. So what, deal with it. The NFL is great.

That's by simple definition better than the NFL's system which will leave a 10-6 team sitting home while a 8-8 team is a division champion. Ridiculous.
