LVfalconfan
Do they do practices or weight training, watch film. or Do they all kind of do their own thing to stay in shape. Like would the coaches tell Matt Ryan to put some weight on? Just wondering. Im sure Matt Ryan doesnt go a whole off season without throwing a football

This is the #1 thing that seperate average to good players from great players. They out work everyone else. Matt Ryan's a workaholic. He will be great because he will put the work in. That's a big difference in Roddy too. He said he's taking his profession seriously now and is putting in the work to be great.

It just shows that no matter how talented you are. you will never be great without a good work ethic, which I think a lot of our team has. illest_will
it's their choice what they do in the off-season, some continue to work on their own, some go to camps to work on a certain part of their game, coaches might ask of players to gain/lose weight, but it's, in the end, the player's choice. it's best for people to continue working out though, so they are kept up w/ late postseason teams, and probowl players
illest_will
also, about the whole smuggling weed/dog fighting/getting high remarks...that's what makes it so sad that he didn't utilize his talents, because I'm sold on the fact he didn't work at ALL in this league, and was still able to will his team to some wins. that just goes to show how much raw talent the guy had. BlacksburgHokie
The great players and coaches continue working for most of the offseason after a monthlong or so vacation. It's just too hard to play at an elite level if you don't spend a substantial amount of time in the offseason maintaining conditioning and trying to get better - if you come into training camp out of shape, its hard to get back into game shape by the first week of the season.Coaches spend the offseason reviewing tape of their own team and other teams, trying to figure out how to improve their schemes to fit their personnel. If a new player is acquired, they have to figure out how to integrate that player into the scheme. Also, some coaches have a significant say in the draft, so that would take up some time as well.
