Plan For Slowing Down Brees?

Alright, we're going to be facing arguably the best quarterback in the NFL (judging from the way they are all playing NOW) on Sunday when Drew Brees hits the Georgia Dome.

Realistically we can't shut this guy down. He's too good and the 'Aints have too many weapons.

What do you think VanGorder and Smith's plan defensively is going to be? The 'ol "bend but don't break defense?".....keeping everything in front of us and not allowing Brees to beat us deep?.....or do we choose a more aggressive plan?

What say you?

Paint his mole to look like a football - maybe he'll throw himself.

Seriously - we have to get pressure - and Abe needs a great day. He's going to get his yards, we just need to control the scoring.

Keep our offense out there all day long - keep him off the field.

The best way to slow Brees down is to bump his receivers up front and get into their heads - keep them from maintaining their timing routes and popping them hard whenever they do catch the ball - We are near the top in not allowing YACs so if we keep them in front of our defenders we could be very sucsessful in defending the pass - just don't give up the big play.

On a side note we have to break Brees' streak against the Falcons - ever since he has come to New Orleans the Falcons have not beat the Saints -- this my friend has to change

Attack him from the start. Go right at him with blitz packages. See how he handles the pressure. If he starts making completions then I'd might back off and play some zone. Don't give their receivers too much cushion either.

i think with foxy and houston, they dont give too much cushion like grimes use too..and hopefully it will stay that way because i think brees likes to throw that quick slant to the inside.

The scary thing about Drew is he don't play favorites; if any rcvr gets open Drew will hit him.

If we blitz too often he will light us up. The front four is going to have to do it themselves. Move Abe around and put Jamal inside once or twice. Show that 3-3 nickel pack we used vs Aaaron Rodgers where Nicholas rushed in. Boley has got to have his best game of the season; he needs to make plays in space.

If the d-line can't get to him, then all they need to do is to get their hands up and make him rush his passes. He's only 6 feet tall so they'll have a better chance at batting down his passes.

From the two games I've seen from him that is happening to him more this year.

We need to keep him off the field as much as possible. He is a very talented QB. If we can keep pressure on him from our D-line and maybe even bring some linebackers and safeties. Our corners will have to stand strong. Foxworth and Houston will be tested.

We need to get our running game started early. If we can get Turner started early and Norwood, we will be able to run the clock down and keep there D on the field. Again Turner and Ryan will have to have a big day to win this game or to keep pace with the Saints.
