Why do the Falcons look so impressive ?

Matt Ryan.

It all starts with him, and it ends with him.

Believe me, I'm not ignoring ALL the other great improvements to the coaching staff and the QUALITY players we have added, but young Mr. Ryan makes it all work like a philharmonic orchestra. From understanding the COMPLETE coaching philosophy inside and out...........no easy task, especially for a rookie, to mastering each game plan once the whistle blows, the total control of the no-huddle offense, knowing each offensive player and where they are on EVERY play, how to utilize them, and when,................on and on and on.

This young man, Matt Ryan is truly BEYOND BELIEF.

No other way to describe him.

He is totally unique. And, he's an Atlanta Falcon.

actually no..

it started with mike smith or better yet, Thomas Dimitroff for hiring mike smith, or better yet Art blank for hiring TD..

Well if you're going to look at it that way you keep just going back, back, back, and back with who it started with.

It's a combination of things and Matt Ryan is a big reason why this team is playing good this year.

he does a great job with the no huddle. i bet we'll use it as much as the colts do next year. that can really pose a problem for the opposing team.

It made a huge impact on the Raiders game. Their defense was totally worn out on the first two drives...I believe we used the no huddle on 7 of those plays at least. In fact, the Raiders had to take a TO to rest the defense. I've seen that in the NBA or College hoops, but not too much in the NFL. Of course, it didn't help that they went 3 and out on their first series.

I think its about our coaching staff. We have an amazing coaching staff now. They have instilled a new attitude and a TEAM mentality. We haven't really played as a team since the last NFC championship game. Yes, Ryan is a big part of it, but give some credit to

1. Mularkey for the play calling. Who was it? Knapp who wouldn't allow the QB to call an audible? Could you imagine Ryan out there without the capability of calling an audible? What about the intelligence of putting Claybo at LT for the Norwood sweep touchdown yesterday?

2. Roddy for getting open on his routes (and adjusting his routes) and making great catches. He even got a holding call on Aso yesterday, probably the best CB in the league.

3. Turner for busting through the lines like a bowling ball, and making many many (including Dhall) just bounce off of him. He has broken so many tackles, its rediculous.

4. OLine-for protecting Ryan --We have pretty much the same OLine now that we had last year without Sam Baker, but don't you see a huge difference? Credit the Oline coach and the guys for a new attitude this year.

5. All of our position coaches--if you cant see the improvement of the players during training camp, and preseason, and regular season, you are blind. Look at Anderson. Did nothing last year, but wow, has he come on strong this year.

I could go on and on. But wow what a turnaround, and Ryan definitley deserves a lot of the credit, but without the rest of the TEAM, he may have just been an above avg rookie QB. Believe me, Im not taking anything away from Ryan. He is an amazing talent. But don't forget about everyone else.

Also, thank Arthur Blank, for really trying to put the best TEAM together, starting with TD. He learned from his mistakes, and got it right on the 3rd try. Not bad at all!

GO FALCONS! Beat the Saints!

All good and valid points, but without Ryan running the offense with his incredible ability.............mental and physical, the results would NOT be the same.

Case in point : JaMarcus Russell. In my opinion, a total waste of time and money. He's beyond pathetic.

Alright, Falcons Nation...First time poster to the site, greetings to all...Was glad to see that the Falcons overcame the screwjob by the officials in the Eagles game (Had that happened to the Dallas Cowboys, we'd never have heard the end of it from ESPN) and really laid it on the Raiders, fantastic game...I'll shed no tears for Oakland, when they were in their heyday, they relished embarrassing and humiliating their opponents, so this is payback for them and that miser Al Davis. Was wondering if there was any sentiment left in Atlanta for Michael Vick, especially with the emergence of our new QB, Matt Ryan, he's been incredible thus far.

Somehow I get the feeling that there are still some Falcons fans left that wouldn't mind having Vick back, but for me, I hope he lands on his feet...In Oakland or Dallas, both of them could use his services.

GO FALCONS!!!!! BOOOOO SAINTS!!!!!

I agree...with this coaching staff and TEAM, Ryan is spectacular....and without Ryan, this team is an average or maybe a little below avg team.

Poor JaMarcus Russell. I don't know how good he is or could be, but he has NO CHANCE with the Raiders. Just like anyone else on that team. To have that kind of payroll, and that terrible of production, just sad. Even Detroit is finally moving in the right direction by removing Millen, but Raiders....wow, bottom dwellers for a while, I think.

As much credit as I give to Matt Ryan, I have to say I disagree 100%. Two words as to why the Falcons look so impressive. Thomas Dimitroff! He brought in Mike Smith. He is the reason Ryan, Baker, Lofton, and Douglas were drafted. He brought in Coleman, Turner, Hartsock, Peele, and Moorehead. Ryan is a key to our success, undoubtedly. But Dimitroff is the primary reason for this turn around.

I think you misunderstood my point. I meant in the actual game...........after the whistle blows.

No question all credit goes to TD for his outstanding talent evaluation, patience, and standards.

Second to none.

And, a great big thanks to Mr. Blank for the courage to hire TD from ONLY a video interview. It wasn't even in person. Unbelievable.

there is enough credit to go around guys.......

yes, it starts with Thomas Dimitroff because he "got this party started"

then Dimitroff made his first stellar move with the impeccable hiring of Mike Smith

Mike Smith brought in his generals - guys like Mike Mularkey, Paul Boudreau, Robiskie and Brian Van Gorder

but agree with the original thread - on the field, this team starts and finishes with

Young Matt Ryan.........he's the team leader at 23 years old and has the heart of a champion!

You misunderstood my point. I meant when the game is actually being played.............on the field. When the whistle blows.

Matt Ryan's rookie season ended after the Bears game! He's so ahead of the learning curve he's already a second year player! He is so efficient in his running the offense! A true professional always makes it look easy!!!!

Just my thoughts.

I wouldn't give all the credit to Ryan. Please don't get me wrong ... I'm certainly impresed with Ryan but he doesn't play special teams or defense. He's just one player at one position. I betcha Ryan himself would tell you it's all about the TEAM.

Yes, he would - which is what makes him special. I don't think anyone could argue that one person wins the games. There are 11 out on the field for a reason. It's about study, planning, creating a game plan and practicing, adjusting during the game, reading the defenses and offenses during plays and then executing. But, what Ryan brings to the team is Leadership. Look at New England - they are winning games - they have all those pieces in place. They are missing their real leader of the team, though - and if you think they would have the same record, with the same numbers if Brady were in there- you are wrong.

And no - I'm not comparing anybody - I'm saying that you are missing the point of the post.

Very well said, I believe, sir, that you have hit the nail on the head. This young man is ahead of his time by leaps and bounds. Let's just hope he continues to progress, who knows where we could go....
