Has Foxworth officailly taken Grimes starting spot?

I dont see Foxy losing the starting job. It appears as though Grimes in nothing more than a fiesty nickelback. He can tackle and play tight coverage--which is perfect for the nickelback position.

With Foxy and Houston starting, I wonder what that means for Chevis Jackson and Von Hutchins (when he returns from injury next year)

Chevis will be our full time NB next year and we will release grimes

I believe that is what Foxworth was hired for. He said it took him a while to get acclimated. I like Grime's athleticism in the short range but he will give up the long ball the same way Rossum use to especially when not getting his head turned around. I am wondering if he can field punts. Maybe he could be our Tim Dwight kamikaze. Burning speed, north to south, no fear.

Foxworth may work well for this year but he is a free agent after the season and is looking to get paid. I doubt we will offer him what he is looking for so he is nothing more then a temp for us. We will still need to find another starting CB for next season. With Champ out in Denver, I'm sure they are wishing they still had him around.

What is he looking for or the question might be what will other teams pay him?

First of all, you have no idea what the guy wants. Not every CB in the league is trying to be the highest paid player ever.

Secondly, the guy's decent but far from talented enough to demand a huge contract. If he was a good enough CB to demand a huge contract, Denver never would've let him go. If he plays well the rest of the season, we may offer him something like 5years/$15-18 mil.

I think we will sign Fox for next year. He seems to be playing very well. If he can continue to his good play, our corners would be solid for next year. Chevis would still be a good nickel, Grimes would be a good ST contributor and could increase his value if he could return punts, and provide solid depth in case of injury. Hutchens I am not sure about since his injury happened so early in camp.

You guys may be right in saying Fox may want a huge contract. That would certainly weigh in as to what we do. If we sign him, we would owe Denver a 6th in the 09 draft, which would be good value (provided his contract is reasonable). Another thing about Fox--my brother has lived in Denver for 20 years and is a huge Bronco fan. He and his friends were upset when they traded Fox. He thought he was a solid contributor to the team. Now that Champ has gone down, they are really bummed. He also said that Fox had a reputation as a great locker room person, and was very popular in the Denver community; which definitely fits the TD and Smitty profile.

One thing is for sure: our DB's will get a supreme test this week with Brees and his arsenal of receivers. If they can keep those guys in check, we will know that we have something.

My main concern isn't Grimes moreso what will we do with Hutchins once he comes back next year if Foxworth has that spot on lock...

Grimes would make excellent depth at the corner and nickel position, but the sad part is that he's also expendable.

I agree.

I'm hoping we sign Foxworth and trade Hutchins. I would keep Grimes as depth along with Jackson.

When we traded a draft pick for Foxworth it was not with the intention of letting him walk at the end of the season. We will make a concerted effort to resign him and rightfully so.

I want to agree with you but how can you be so sure?

Dimitroff has shown no signs of being the type of GM that makes mistakes like that. If Atlanta was a bonified playoff contender before the season began and was just a piece or two away from serious Super Bowl contention, then maybe you trade draft picks for someone who could get you over the hump...clearly that was not the case before this season began.

What this young team needed (needs) is depth and experience. Foxworth was brought here to help shore up a weak secondary not just for this year but for years to come. If he'd had a year or two left on his contract that would be different, but under the present circumstances, if we do not try to resign him then we had no business trading even a late-round pick to get him. Dimitroff has shown that he knows how to get value from those picks.

Foxworth wanted to get paid thats why he left Denver - Denver wasn't going to pay him. I think it was Dre Bly who said Foxworth is a good player but can't showcase his skills in hopes to get paid by sitting behind him and champ

Money notwithstanding, Foxworth has repeatedly stated that he feels he is a starting caliber CB and was hopelessly stuck behind Bailey and Bly. He welcomed the trade to a team where he would get his chance. The Falcons have brought him along slowly, but with Grimes playing ST and Foxworth starting the last 2 games, it looks like the change has been made.

Now, Foxworth has to walk the walk. I thought he played well Sunday. He had at least one PD, on a day when Russell looked like ca-ca and the Raiders only had the ball for 15 min.
