Big Wayne Gandy

I noticed that Gandy got quite a bit of playing time today, in particular for someone who admittedly was not in 'football shape'. I didn't hear that Wiener was hurt, so it made me wonder if they were just trying to give Gandy some time to get a little game experience against a not too threatening D Line. Bad news is that he got beat for a sack. Good news is that besides that play, he seemed to hold his own. Although OAK isn't a particularly good defense, Big Wayne played okay. So far - seems like a good pick up with the Baker situation.

GANDY is garbage. what more if we had played a better defense. he's a liability out there. im more comfortable with weiner. need to get some line men in the draft

Man Gandy did not look good out there today......There were several plays he didnt even get his hands on the guys

I know he is rusty, but I just dont feel good when he is all we have...here is to hoping he does ok.

oline had some downs today but overall a very good job. Gandy looked alrite in the 2nd half, but snelling was very impressive

Yeah, Wayne was getting beat over and over. We'd be in a bad place if this guy had to play as much as he did today.

hopefully he improves and gets back up to speed by the 9th. our offense needs to be clicking REALLY good in that game.

It wasn't just the sack, he let several guys run right by him and he looked like crap in the run game. Maybe some more practice time will help, but I'd rather have a crippled Weiner out there at this point... Gandy looked like complete trash.

By the time Gandy went in, this was a pre-season game. He may or may not have it. But we can't really base that on what we saw today.

I would rather have old Bob Whitfield in there than Wayne Gandy. Granted, Gandy was obviously rusty today and they put him in when the game was way out of reach - which I liked. So it was good to get some rust worn off in a game like this.

But when it's going to really matter in the upcoming games, I don't want to see Wayne Gandy out there ever again.

- He is not fully up to speed with the system, although he is familiar with it.

With the Falcons up 24-0, Wayne Gandy took over at left tackle for Todd Weiner in the second quarter.

"I think for two days of practice, with something that I have no clue about, it was OK," Gandy said. "This is training camp on the run. This was a good day."

With rookie left tackle Sam Baker out indefinitely with lower back surgery, the Falcons signed Gandy, a 14-year veteran on Wednesday.

"We'll continue to develop Wayne and get him into shape," Smith said. "I know he wasn't in game shape, like he would like to be."

- Of course, OAK has a poor D- line, so it was a good chance to let Gandy play

But I think you guys are missing the point. Gandy is here for backup duties. As long as Baker is out, Wiener is the man. I certainly don't think that Gandy played any worse than Ojinaka (who has also given up a sack). The Gandy signing, under the circumstances, is a good move.
