Smith told us he wants to establish the running game, control the line of scrimage

Stop the run!!! I don't see any of this happening lately. Has he gotten away from his principals or is it me???

Because, we are not stopping the run and we do not control the line of scrimage on either side of the ball and

we do not have a running game!!!

Right now, I would give him a grade of C+ because he has gotten away from what he said he was going to do.

Is he all talk or is he really trying to stick to these principals? Right now, I would say he is mostly talk...

And, one more thing! Where is this physical dominating team he promised us???

I hope is is not all talk...

the lions said they wanted to run the football. not doing such a great job eh?

its not smiths fault. the players have to go out there and execute. they've done a good job of that at times, and at other times, not so much.

got to give it some time.

I'm not saying Superbowl or Bust you know, I just want to see us improving a little each week and I am not seeing that. I am seeing us do a little less each we. Like we are going in the wrong direction!

Are you kidding me dude. This is his first year. He is still playing with a bunch of guys that McKay brought to the team. He said he was going to build our team through the draft and he did a very good job of it this year.

Obviously, you did not read my post! I just want to see this team improve a little each week, in the areas that we should improve. God, I'm not killing your precious coach... I love the man, too!

We are 7 games into the season in a league that constanly adjusts to what your team is doing.

It's not going to be a linear progression.

The only times you will see a big jump are when the personel gets changed or an enitrely new scheme is put into play.

I doubt you will see an entirely new scheme put into play unless the coaches feel that the current one is a total failure.

Personel won't really change until the offseason.

Wow...ready to give up already???

We have been improving! This time last year, we would've been 2-5 probably. The run has been a consistent factor in our success this season. We've just been going against some tough defenses that our offense isn't ready to matchup with yet. The team is playing physical, but we're still short on the necessary components to be where Smitty envisions this team to be. We need help on the o-line to make the run game thrive, as well as, help on the d-line to generate a pass rush and help our corners. Smitty said this will be a process and he hasn't diverted from his gameplan. We pound the ball, but if we're getting stopped, then we have to do what needs to be done. Just have a little faith...if you're not saying "Superbowl or Bust", then this thread shouldn't have been started.

On Offense:

Other teams have figured out that Michael Turner is the real deal. They are stacking against him. His early success was in part because no one was expecting him to be so effective. Now, the Falcons have to develop an O-line that can create holes even when they're expecting the run. For that, they need a few more players. As to Sunday's game, they were without Baker, then Wiener got hurt, so they were down to Ojinaka, who gave up the 2 sacks, I believe. Give it some time.

On Defense:

J. Anderson played well last week, and had a sack vs. PHI, but when he went out, you could tell a big difference. If Grady gets suspended, that's 4 more games where the Falcons will have to fight hard to control the line. All in all, they still need a few more guys to complete the D-line, but they're getting there. Give it some time.

this thread is a fail, if you listened, before the season he said, it might take sometime to establish it, by years of drafting. its not his fault we won all these games and RAISED YOUR EXPECTATIONS

Dude, we're talking Pro Football here. Why is wanting to improve each week so far out touch with you guys??? That's normal progression!!!

Should you not improve as the season goes on??? Come on guys, if you just want to be silly, please don't reply to this thread...

I hope to God this post is a joke.

The very last person I would be complaining about (if I were a Falcon fan) is Smith

I thnk you'll find we have improved each week, its just Philly is an actual playoff team and we are not but we still improved in that game, but then our backup OT went out and then \ big part of our Run D went out (Jamaal)

All in all you are grasping at straws in this thread I give it an c for effort but an F for actual knowledge, good try but still a fail.

as someone said already, you cannot improve when other team know what you do best and gameplans to stop it, injuries on the lines does not help the matter either, now grady might get suspended the next games, i bet you will blame smith for allowing more runs now too?

It's impossible to see "improvement," every week in the NFL. We play against different teams who throw different things at us. Some players get hurt. And most importantly, we're stuck with the same talent that we started the year with.

Most of us were painfully aware that our defensive line was a mess going into this year. We were so desperate for defensive linemen that we got Grady Jackson back. Same with the offensive line. We have 3 new starters on the offensive line, and two of them are undrafted castoffs from other teams.

We went out and got ourselves a great QB. We have some great players at most of our other offensive positions. We REALLY need some work done on our lines. I expect us to have another solid draft in 2009. I expect us to be playoff contenders next year. I expect us to have the first consecutive winning seasons in 2009 and 2010.

My response was an answer to your original topic.

You expect to see obvious weekly linear improvement and I don't think that is likely to happen.

The league is not built that way. Other teams adapt to what we are doing on a weekly basis.

The roster is not built that way. We don't have the personel on board yet that will fit our scheme and we can't just pick up new guys weekly.

If you want obvious changes wait until the preseason.

Nope, this thread is silly...<_<

People are trying to explain to you why the run game may seem like it's not improving, but for some reason you can't grasp the truth. Compared to last year, IMO, this team has done a complete 180 in terms of mentality and overall effort...in all of our losses, each game was within reach and they played that way, whereas last year's team would've gave up. We're not shooting ourselves in the foot, but this team has been great at eliminating some of the things that's plagued us in seasons past. That's improvement.
