Falconsfan567
With all the mess about Brooking not pulling is weight I paid special attention to him today and I gotten say I didn't like what I saw. Brooking has been my favorite Falcon through thick and thin. He has been here through all the changes but I saw today how he has lost a step or two over the last couple of years and just doesn't have the same speed he once did. It was embrassing seeing Kyle Eckco out run him on that pass over the middle. We don't know if Nicholas is capeable of starting but I believe we need to try to do something to cover the passing over the middle better. Scott24Falcons
You're not kidding, man. He can't shed blocks, can't cover, and overpursues a ton. Brooking has always been one of my favorites, too. I think it's time for a change. If we can draft a good WLB with our first next season, I'm all for it.BTW, is anybody else disappointed with the play of Michael Boley this year? In a contract year he has been pretty average for a guy that has shown flashes of brilliance over his few seasons. Other than the INT against GB he really hasn't done much. Curtis Lofton has been our best LB all season. Easily.

The first half until the final 3 minutes or so was the best our defense as a whole has played all year.
Remarkable
I don't like the fact that he tackles like a corner.
Falconsfan567
I don't like the fact that he tackles like a corner.I did notice that on the McNabb touchdown. What happened to hitting McNabb as hard as you can? He instead when for his legs.
Kayoh
KBrook wanted a hug on that play. McNabb didn't give him a hug, so he took one as violently as he possibly knows how to.
Remarkable
It's not just that McNabb TD. I can't remember the last time Brooking didn't give up extra yards on a tackle.

I agree with Scott24Falcon that Boley has been a disappointment this year as well. I think it is time the coaching staff shakes things up a little and see if it lights a fire under Brooking and Boley. It couldn't hurt anyway. Falconsfan567
No it wouldn't. Milloy and Coleman have been disappointments this year. I thought having 2 veteran guys in the secondary would really sure up or coverage over the middle but it's still just as bad.
root down
I have also defended Brooking over the years to the haters....but just wow. Can't cover a FB!??! can't cover a TE. Had a shot a McNabb, got pushed over. Just awfull really. Thx Keith for the dedication and great years.as for Boley. I'd like to see more blitzes called for him coming off the edge. He's always getting himself out of position, and he no longer has the speed to compensate - I guess this is the payoff for all those years of freelancing. As for Boley, I don't think he's been that bad this year, he seems to be covering his responsibilities pretty well anyway. I just don't think the system puts him in a good position to make plays, his versatility in coverage and as a rusher is really an asset that needs to be exploited more.Lofton has been a very pleasant surprise. I remember in preseason and in the first game or two, he looked lost and couldn't seem to shed a block to save his life. Now he's diagnosing quickly and meeting guys in the hole. He's probably still a ways away from developing those coverage skills, which is too bad - we need someone to push Brooking off the field on nickel downs.I really have no idea how Nicholas is coming along as a successor to Brooking, since I only seem to see him on special teams and as a pass rusher in the 3-3-5 nickel. Here's a random thought, though - can Biermann be developed as a WLB? It doesn't seem like there's a great history of smallish ends being able to pack on weight and toughen up against the run (whereas big guys can start out as run stuffers and develop some pass rush skill along the way), and I don't think he can survive in the pros unless he slims down and moves to LB. He just gets washed out of running plays wayyy too easily, but his instincts are really polished for a rookie, and he's got great quickness - seems like a natural for OLB. Falconsfan567
Biermann was projected as a pass rusher in a 3-4 system by alot of people.

Milloy and Coleman are our 2nd and 3rd best defensive players, right behind Abe. They're both literally everywhere the ball is, they're both sure tacklers, and neither one of them is a true liability in coverage.

falconfanjason
It may be time to cut ties with Brooking as much as he has been a good player for us. He's definitely lost a step or two.

Falcon Fanatic
Draft Aaron Curry and our issues at WLB are solved.Good player but no thanks. LB doesn't seem to be our greatest need. Coach needs to use Nicholas more and try Biermann at LB since he is too light to get past defending OT's and has played the position before. Remember we get Robert James (our 5th round pick from last year's draft) back next year.
