Chain of events leading to the loss

Recommended Posts

Although it can probably be traced back further, this is in my opinion where the f****ups started happening.

1. Finneran drops a TD pass which hits him perfectly in the hands. As a result, we end up burning a time out to make sure we get the playcall we want on 4th down.

2. Coach Smith burns our last time out before the two minute warning after 10-15 seconds roll off while he is waiting to see the spot of the ball. hindsight is 20-20, but he should have let the clock run down to the two minute warning, that way we still have one time out going into the two minute offense.

3. Jennings, who let almost every single punt fall in front of him all game decides to get that close and then change his mind at the last minute. Although it was a piss-poor call, a different bounce would have easily bounced off jennings. He never should have been that close to it coming to the ground without being able to catch it. A better played punt would have eliminated the possibilty of that call being made.

In conclusion, had finneran caught the td pass, even if the same series of events had played out, we would have still had one time out remaining to challenge the play.

i cant lie..... allot of stuff worked against us and wasnt smart to do but yoooooo...going for a fade on 2nd and 1 was dumb.... Fin period was bad (missed allot of balls).......Jennings should not have made the call that close...... that Ed Hochuli type call hurts bad tho

JUST LAY DOWN AND TAKE IT LIKE A ***** WHY DON'T YOU?

This is the refs fault PLAIN AND SIMPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

grow up. This loss is not because of that one call. it sure as **** helped in the loss, but had we played better throughout the game we would have avoided being in that situation.

Milloy not getting a penalty after we stop them on third down, roddy catching that first deep ball he dropped, our defense playing better the whole game, us running the ball inside the 1 instead of a freaking fade route, etc....grow up and stop blaming the loss on one thing. i'm just as pissed off by the call that cost us A CHANCE to win the game, but we easily could have avoided being in that situation.

that lists shows how one thing could have changed the entire course of events of the game.

yeah, the call hurts. but when there is a call that bad, it just gives you a scapegoat for the anger of how the game went. it gives you something clear as day to hate and put all the blame on, even though it took more than that.

You should really invest in some furniture. Chairs are MUCH more comfortable than the floor. :P

But I do agree with your post. Finn jumped too early on that pass, didn't catch it at the height of his jump, but on the way down instead. Probably was expecting a little more zip on the ball there. Still should have caught it though. The last time out though was a tough decision. If we had gotten the ball, and scored with less than 28 seconds left, it would have been the right call to make. Those are spur of the moment decisions and tough to second guess.

Add the fade route for an interception when we shouuld have run it in for the score.

BUt you are forgetting the biggest part of all this......

Despite the Finn drop, and the Lawyer hit, and the fade, this team was in a position to take the ball on a winning drive. All the boneheaded stuff that happened before were moot as the team held philly and it all came down to one final drive by Matt Ryan and the Falcons....a drive we never saw.

Sure the team screwed up a bunch of things but at the end it was all wiped out and we had a chance to at least try and win it.....****, we did it against Chicago, why not Philly.

that fade to Roddy may have been a horrible plass but it was an idiotic call that should have never been made.

I don't agree w/you often cwell, since you're among the Brooking bashers, but on this we are in total agreement. You punch that ball in w/Turner, or you take the FG. End of story, and any freakin' Pop Warner knows that much basic football knowledge. I'm terribly disappointed in Mularkey for that, well, "Mularkey".

And a drive Filly definitely DID NOT want to see happen. I have no doubts Matty Ice would have won that game if the refs had not of screwed him out of that chance.

Would have been a great day in Filly, an eagirls loss on the last drive of the game followed by a fillies loss in the World Series tonight.

That's the point of the post. the finn drop is what cost us the timeout needed to review the play if the chain of events afterwards didn't change. he catches that pass, we still have three timeouts going into the final defensive stand instead of two. we burn two timeouts on the drive like we did, we would still have one timeout remaining.

i'm not attributing that as the only reason we lost, i just remember thinking after that drive, that his drop and the used timeout would end up costing us later and it did.

look at it this way - we are playing a lot better and have a ton more optimism than I would have ever thought possible at this stage in smiths tenure. There is still a learning process going on.

All these types losses do is make the team better . It shows the staff who is real and who can be counted on in crunch time .

I think we all know the Falcons need an upgrade on punt returns . That can easily be fixed . The rest can simply be worte up as " **** happens . " you see it every week in the NFL . I for one am going to enjoy this roller coaster ride and whatever happens , happens . Because I know this thing the falcons have is gaining momentum and if they dont make the playoffs this year , I know I can look forward to next year.

The main thing is these guys ( Blank , Smith , Ryan and Co.) are gonna get it right .

You forgot trying ot pass when you have 2nd and goal at the 1 instead of running it in.

Absolutely not. The Falcons put themselves it a position to win after overcoming every obstacle possible only to get robbed.

Mularkey gave 7 points away with that stupid goal line call.

How about the awful game by Milloy, one of the many he's had this year.

A number of missed tackles, and a costly penalty that led to points for Philly.

The Falcoms are seriously lacking team speed on defense leaving them unable to compensate for Milloy and Brooking's poor pley.
