Keith Brooking used to be a good linebacker. He's not anymore. Sure he has good numbers on tackles but if you have watched the games then you know as well as I do that 90% of the tackles he gets is hanging onto somone's shoestrings as they drag him down the field. He's neither strong, nor fast anymore. When is the last time Brooking has stepped up in a gap and absolutly STUFFED a runningback right there at the line of scrimmage the way good linebackers do? I'd say about 2004.

Yes, Brooking is on the decline. Its unfortunate. He played his *** for this football team. Let the man play this season. Maybe start limiting his playtime I dont know. That is for the coaches to decide (obv)I dont see him being a Falcon next year, although I could be wrong. I wish all the luck to him.

The coaches are not going to pull Brooking to put in Nicholas. Brooking will not play much longer. Then we will have a great replacement with Nicholas.

Roger Goodell steps up to the podium....

.......with the 17th pick in the 2009 NFL draft, the Atlanta Falcons select..........Aaron Curry, Linebacker - Wake Forest University.....

Brooking is one of the best linebackers in Falcons history and yet you jacka**es continue to knock him. Yes, I will admit he is on the decline but for the millionth time he is still a good LB. He has made some plays this year already and yet everyone always remembers the bad. I personally hope KB retires here. BTW, if Nicholas was better he would be starting.

I would have to agree, Brooking has always been a great linebacker for this team. He's done nothing but give his all from day one. It's unfortunate that so many continue to knock the man after all that he's done for this franchise. I too would like to see KB retire from ATL, he's a great linebacker, always has been. Everyone starts to lose a step eventually, give the man a break.

that's all good, but I want the best players out there.

"17th pick? What the Heck did the Falcons trade up to get the 17th pick? I thought they had pick 32?"

Now that is what I want to hear the Commish to say draft day ;)

should a "good" LB make $7 million/yr?

should a "good" LB make more than one big play per year?

should a "good" LB have a sack every now and then?

Brooking has had a fine career but you don't get to keep your job and high salary based on what you did five years ago. Brooking got to stay when Dimitroff was "cleaning house" because you had to keep somebody for continuity's sake and Brooking had the best attitude and most roots in Georgia - over Dunn, Crumpler, Coleman, etc.

Just because many of us are "ready to move on" and get better at the linebacker position - does not mean we hate Keith Brooking. There is a "time" for everything - and it will be time for Brooking to either "go" altogether in 2009 OR accept a 600% paycut (from $7million/season to $1million/season) and a back-up role. Either way, I don't care - but Brooking is no longer a "starting caliber" linebacker in the NFL.

WTF does his pay have to do with it? If we were against the cap, then I can see your point. But we have enough money to go after who we want (we did just try to land Gonzo according to sources). Talk about his declining play or his lack of "big plays" if you want, but bringing up his pay just sounds like jealousy. It serves your argument none.

pay does not have much to do with Brooking's declining play - agree there.

But pay has "everything" to do with whether you keep a player, cut a player or re-structure a player. At this point, keeping Brooking without restructuring is pure "welfare" - a giveaway......Dimitroff will most likely address Brooking in the offseason - you will see....Of course, I thought Dimitroff was gonna restructure Brooking last off-season and he did not.

I'm not jealous of what Brooking makes- i'm a capitalist - get whatever you can get - if I was jealous of what guys made, then I could not even be a sports fan - that is just a silly statement.

were on a message board. i'm not sure if you know this or not, but this is the falcon's message board. so people are going to type about the falcons.

Yes. BUt they don't need to act like they know something about Brooking that they don't, and pretending that they see all sorts of things not in evidence. . .

people see what they want to see. brooking has been getting ate up a lot this year. if i had dvr, i'd post some videos of it.

with that said, i think brooking's knowledge is much more important than nicholas' obvious physical dominance over brooking.

If PHysical dominance was the be all of football, Jamarcus RUssel woudl be an all - time player, and this woudl be RYan LEaf's sixth Superbowl in a row.

I'm not too concerned about it - I do believe in our coaching staff and general manager. I think the Keith Brooking question will get addressed in the off-season..........We will have to "wait and see" if it gets resolved with a lesser role, reduced pay, outright cut or status quo.

I'm patient and willing to "see how it plays out" - as if I had a choice in the matter ;)
