atljbo
Hines Ward with a huge hit on Keith Rivers......Keith Rivers is now out for the seasonAccording to Andrew Siciliano of DirecTV’s Red Zone Channel, Rivers also is out for the seasonI'm pretty sure Hines Ward will get fine and maybe even suspend for this (has been fined for this before....leading with his helmet)My question is....... Should hits or blocks like this be a penalty ?
collinr01
Legal hit, he shouldn't be fined.

SWIFT HITTER
there were some crazy hits today espcially in the Browns -Redskins game..Cribbs got destroyed on one play and Troy P Steerlers got his bell rung today trying to put a hit on Benson
ki46dinah
Looked legit to me...what happened to Rivers as a result? Ah, broken jaw. That sux for the 1st round rook...he was the best rookie MLB to date.Man oh man...who thinks Hines Ward wants to play defense in the NFL? If Troy Brown's skinny arse can do it, I think Ward could. blizzard_falcon
Hines Ward could probably play any position on the field, he's just that much of a deteremined, talented athelete.

obmann
Ward is one of the dirtiest player in this leauge. He is smiling you in the face and thinking:" You ashole....."I do not like him.
A-TowN.-
Pretty clean shot, he was just trying to block someone.Sad for Keith though, he didn't even see it coming.

obmann
What is dirty? Because it was no helmet to helmet?Where was the ball? For me again a typical Ward situation....He wants to hit and I quietly sure, that he wants to injury other players....So I am for nasty football. But these are very dangerous hits........I do not think, that Rivers was expecting them....

obmann
Yes he has a good image. But my opinion is not BS, because you are not the same. And he was fined the last two weeks. But of course my opinion is ********.He will get suspended. And this is right! Thanks Goodell
Stewie
That is a legal hit...if he is fined the league is turning into a flag football league.
Tandy
Heinz Ward is a physical, hard-hitting 100% at all times player. He has been that way since his Georgia days. He's a great wide receiver and a bad-as. hitter - and I personally love to watch him. There was absolutely nothing dirty about that play. It's unfortunate that the rookie got his jaw broke - but the hit was clean. Monster - but clean!Edit:If they want to fine people - get them for the cheap-shot hits after the plays - deliberate blind-side hits made illegally or career-threatening illegal hits - don't stop the physical play of football - or we may as well play freakin' polo out there. JC Falcon
Sucks that Rivers broke his jaw, but I don't see that as a dirty hit. When you hit a guy that is taller than you - your helmet will hit his chin when you put your body in front of him - which you must do for a legal block.I do wonder on injuries like this why they don't require helmest and face masks to get a rubber coating so it's not a hard plastic object striking hands or jaws. Anyone remember the helmet that Buffalo safety that had concussion problems had? Kelso? It was coated in foam basically and then painted like other Bill helmets. He looked like a bobble head out there because it made his helmet about an inch bigger all around, but something like that would make the helmets softer on the outside. uga2006
Any DB will tell you Hines Ward is the most physical WR in the league and has been for awhile.
direwolf
According to the rule, you can't lead a hit with your helmet. From the video, it looks to me like Ward ducks his chin before the hit in order to lead with his helmet up under Rivers' jaw.Ward is over six feet tall - I don't think it's a case of a shorter receiver getting up under a taller player's chin. Regardless of what I think of it (and I'm a huge fan of Hines Ward and the all-out way he plays the game), I would suspect that the league will fine him if they determine that he did, indeed, duck his head prior to making that hit because that's pretty much textbook "leading with the helmet". If nothing else, they're trying to make a point at the league office.Direwolf
JC Falcon
I love big hits. If anything, I want to see more of them, not guys get suspended for them. But if guys keep breaking jaws and fingers hitting helmets, they will keep restricting contact. If they mandate helmets are wrapped in a thin layer of foam or rubber or something and it doesn't affect their speed or weight - why not? Sort of like the first QB to wear a flak jacket to protect ribs - now they all do. It didn't affect the game - just reduce injuries. How many QB broken fingers have come from follow thru landing on a hard plastic helmet or face mask? Bodhi
Who else here remembers throwing things at the TV and cursing Dan Reeves' name when he picked in Rnd 3 Jami German instead of Hines Ward, who was sitting right there for the taking? One of the most dissapointing moments of my 37 years as a Falcons fan. There are no guarantees in the NFL, but Hines Ward was about as close as it gets to being someone you KNEW was going to make a positive impact. obmann
A quote about Ward from Nduwke of the Bengals"That's what he's known for," Bengals safety Chinedum Ndukwe said. "You expect that coming in. People are going to take their shots when they can. Too bad he can't hit someone face up. It's too bad he has to wait until he's not looking to get him. It's unfortunate. It's the type of guy he is. That's all right. We play them again. He's a blind-side guy."And he is right.

Suck it up and get your head on a swivel.
