atljbo
On the heels of the Dolphins’ success with direct snaps to RB Ronnie Brown in the “Wildcat” offense, sources in Atlanta say the Falcons will begin using their own version of the scheme — the “Dirty Bird” — more often when they return from their bye week. In Atlanta’s alignment, RB Jerious Norwood takes the snap out of the shotgun formation. The Falcons have been looking to get Norwood, who averages 6.8 yards per carry, more involved in the offense, and this is one way to do it. mattryan222222
I HATE that people think the dolphins were the forst NFL team to do it. The first did it in the second or third week. Remeber week 1 against he lions Norwood lined up at quarterback but it wasnt seen because of a penalty bhefore the play. WE STARTED IT. WE STARTED IT.well, I don't know if we started it - but when we had Vick we let him run the "zone read" formation from shotgun where he did something similiar - of course he was a QB who obviously ran like a RB - would fake to Dunn and take off - or handoff to Dunn/Norwood. ltstorm1
Sweet...Just another wrinkle for opposing defenses to worry about...Oh, and just imagine if Norwood has pass plays built in also. Thats deadly. One read, if the receiver is open, throw it. If not, haul *** towards the endzone.

delaigle
come on people, it's basically the single wing which is old as dirt.A. T. "Pooley" Hubert and Johnny Mac Brown ran it at U Alabama in their first Rose Bowl win, I think about 1925.Hubert coached High school ball in GA in the 50's and ran the single wing almost exclusively. Also they all copied it from the Houstons Nuts Arkansas Razorbacks Wild Hog formation, notice I made sure to use not the current piece of **** coach. :P Glad Kentucky beat them today. :P

Pooley Sr was too old to have been Bear Bryant's asst, he was head coach at VMI I believe, retired and had a peach farm in Ga and taught 9th grade Sci and coached football. His Son Pooley Jr. caoched at the same High School for a while, other than that I do not know what he did. I was gone then. Maybe you know Pooley Jr and his sons.
