Bucs set to make run at Roy Williams

The league-wide trade deadline is today at 4 p.m., and Bucs General Manager Bruce Allen has swung a deal in each of his four previous seasons running the club's front office. Allen likely will be shopping for a fullback, but don't rule out the possibility the Bucs could make a move for a receiver -- Detroit's Roy Williams, who will be a free agent next spring, is the sexiest name out there -- to give balance to an offense armed with the sixth-best ground attack (136 yards per game, 4.9 per carry) despite one of the most unimposing receiving corps in the NFL.

Gruden, as he did last week, tried to douse the notion of a trade, but conceded his GM likely would work the phones.

"I don't want to speculate, but we do have some injuries that are getting painful," he said.

whew...crisis averted...just imagine if he went to the Saints though, that would have been a bia

I can assure you there would be outrage on our end at any pre-deadline trade that did not send a LCB, DT or Safety our way. Someone of Roy's size opposite of Colston would be beastly, to be sure, but when you look at the Saints roster objectively, you don't see a whole lot of need at WR. Still, it's fun to theorize...

Jeez, just imagine Gonzo opposite Shockey.

Um...you mean Gonzo opposite Mark Campbell? Shockey is never on the field...

Shockey has played in only 84% of possible games in his career.

I didnt knock Colston for that because he is still a young buck and hasnt developed an injury prone trend.

I will give props to Shockey for one thing though...he is a competitor and doesnt play soft. Yeah he gets nicked up, but he likes taking out aggression on tacklers, which is a trait I like.
