Falconsfan567
I know this should probably be posted in the FA and Draft forum but i want some real knowledge on this. What position do you think the Falcons need to draft with their 1st round pick next year. I think it needs to be a cornerback.I think Chris Houston would be solid as a #2 and Chevis Jackson solid as a nickelback but the Falcons need at the true #1 CB to take their defense to the next level. I love Brent Grimes heart and passion but that can only make up for height so much. He did make a great play today in the endzone. I'm not that much of a draft guru like I know alot of guys on here are. But who would you draft?
Padawan Knight
I voted CB, but depending on how the draft goes and where we pick, I could see us possibly targeting a WR.
jidady
DT and OLB are the two that make the most sense to me at the moment. We need to find replacements for Grady and Brooking sooner rather than later. Trey Lewis' health is too much of a concern to be certain about his future in the league. Depending on where we pick, RG or C isn't outside the realm of possibility, either. This draft has a couple of centers with late first round grades. capologist
Right now, I'd love to see a CB in the 1st and Brandon James in the 3rd. In the 2nd, I'd probably go WR or TE...
clownorg
It's been pretty obvious over 6 games our Defense needs some upgrading. DT or CB for sure
bossFALCON™
its too early for me. i dont pay attention to college football like i do the NFL and can only name a handful of the popular players. get back to me in late november, early december. GritsPittz
I would say a big time DT. We need a replacement for grady, and a good DT can make your whole defense look better. After DT, I'd say Safety. Many forget that we have talent at CB, with Jackson and Houston. Jackson is just a rookie this year but I think he'll improve and might be a good starter for us next year. Houston is pretty good in man-man coverage, but he has a long way to go in zone coverage. I think grimes could be a good nickel guy for us. Plus the injured CBs we have will be coming back next year. If Jackson keeps playing as well as he has he make take over as starter for Grimes before the season is over. DT is a huge need. But as many have said. It really depends on where we pick and what's left on the board and how much depth each position has. But I felt like this could get good discussion going and try to get more posts in PF. L.Rover
I like the talent we have currently at CB, and would love to see what they can do with a 2nd season in the same defensive scheme.DT is tricky. We will be getting Trey Lewis back, so that is a plus, and Babineux has been pretty good, but Grady is getting older. I would like to think that Dimitroff could spot a good talent in the later rounds at DT.OLB depends upon Brooking (should he retire?) and if Stephen Nicholas can step in as the starter. And do we/ have we re-signed Boley long-term?S is a good bet, especially with the talent that may be available. I love Taylor Mays, think he could be the next great SS, but we do have Thomas DeCoud, who I have heard nothing but good things about. I think we go OG. Grabbing a huge OG (like one of the two from Oklahoma) would further solidify our OL. And getting another OT wouldn't hurt. If we found ourselves in position to draft another LT, it wouldn't be the end of the world to move Sam Baker to RT. This OL has been good, but there is still a lot of room for improvement. I think we need to start grooming a replacement and I haven't seen enough of Ben Wilkerson to know if he could start. I was know he was in the game on the first touchdown the Falcons got against the Packers.
phattywankenobi
I believe the CB talent can be developed enough by next years draft. I definitely think we need some safety help especially with Milloy getting older but that position is better left for a vet to fill. I believe the position with an immediate impact would be the DT position.
Norwood32
Why? Real knowledge? So people that post in NFL D&FA are morons? Plus you realize 90% of the people that post there are already in Pure Football. Some people take PF too seriously. It's like they're higher rank then the "normal" people and can never be wrong. This OL has been good, but there is still a lot of room for improvement.Baker is a much better fit at LT than RT. His fluidity makes him a natural on the edge. The more powerful DEs on the strong side would overpower him. If we draft a tackle, it's going to be a mauler for the right side.
Carter
Tough call, honestly. It depends heavily on where we're picking and who is available as our draft position seems likely to be quite further down from where we selected this year.A brief look at our team tells me we're in pretty dire need of a #1 CB, though we have some good young talent to develop... I don't see another DeAngelo Hall on this team right now who can eliminate a receiver for most of a game. DT is an obvious need for us going forward. We need someone to replace Milloy and Brooking, as well... two players who have been big contributors and leaders on the team. Needless to say, it won't be easy to fill any of these holes. With any luck Vontae Davis will come out early and be in range for us to grab him. I have a good feeling that he'll make an impact in the NFL. Malcolm Jenkins is going to be the big name, but I can see Davis vaulting up the board eventually. If not Davis (and Jenkins is unavailable), then I think Mike Mickens out of Cincinnati or Darius Butler out of UConn could be good 1st round prospects at CB. At OLB, the guys I would look at in the 1st round are Brian Cushing from USC and Aaron Curry from Wake Forest. At DT I am really hoping we get a good hard look at Dorell Scott out of Celmson, Terrance Taylor from Michigan, and perhaps BJ Raji out of Boston College. I think Dorell Scott probably fits the profile of our team best because is noted as being an extremely hard worker with a lot of heart, not to mention good production to go along with it... and at 6'4" and 315 lbs, he's a good prospect to look at for a run stuffer.Safety is a hard one to call, I think we may have picked up a solid player in DeCoud. 2009 is pretty stacked for safeties, especially if some underclassmen declare. I think Taylor Mays will return for his final year, though... making William Moore out of Missouri the top prospect, or possibly Myron Rolle probably tops if he declares. I can't see Moore or Rolle going before the mid-range of the 1st though, whereas Mays is a physical specimen with ridiculous versatility.... Moore and Rolle are at least versatile enough to play either safety position very strongly. Patrick Chung is another good one to look at, but I don't see him making it into the 1st round. If it were up to me, I'd see who's on the board... probably give a good hard look at what's available on the o-line. There are some real horses coming out this year at tackle, guard, and center. We can use some beefing up on both sides of the line. Call me crazy, but I think even Tyson Jackson would be a great pick for us as Abe is only getting older. Jackson may fall in the 1st round simply by virtue of more speedy cats possibly coming out with him... though he could still very easily be a top 10 pick. The only end I like more than him is Everson Griffen, who is only a sophomore this year.
Libid21
1st- Taylor Mays, Mays & Milloy would make a scary tandemMays would be the future replacer of Milloy. The tandem would actually be Mays and Coleman. Milloy doesn't have much left in the tank, and Dimitroff realizes that.
Birdmahn
I voted DT but wouldn't be opposed to drafting a bluechip DE if it was decided that JA98 would be more effective playing DT. The secondary needs upgrading too. It just depends who's on the board when we draft.

I would be shocked to see us draft a OLB in the 1st round. Not when there are more important holes. We really need a ball hoging safety which is why I was so wanting us to get Reggie Nelson in 2007. I don't know anything about Taylor Mays. I'm so clueless about him I couldn't even tell you which team he plays for.

He has the size of a linebacker and the speed of a wide receiver, to go along with the instincts to make an impact at safety in such an offensive league as the Pac-10. He has everything to be the next great safety. When's the last time a safety was a projected top 5 pick as a freshman in college? We have zero hope of landing him, but he'd be a great addition. As for Nicholas, I haven't seen enough of him to form an opinion about him being our weakside LB. He may just be a very good backup.
